Help me decide. Go Fast Goodies or WOW Factor? Details inside!

I need the help of all you guys on the forum to decide. Heres what I'm trying to decide between:

Option 1: The Go Fast Goodies
I would get a PFC, MP, then save up a little more and get an IC.

Option 2: WOW Factor
I'd get an in dash LCD screen, such as an apline 1003 or 1006 and I would get a laptop that I would mount in the car. I would hook up the laptop to the in dash LCD, so I would be able to play MP3s, DVDs and if in the future I get an ECU with data logging I could use the laptop to do that to.

What do you guys think I should do?

Oh just to clarify something. The question should be which should I get first. Since if I get the "go" now I'll just get the "show" later, and vice versa.

i think you need both. too much of one thing, and not enough of another is not good. i say start with performance, and make ever other mod a mod for looks/coolness/wow factor.

BTW, if you say any mod that does not increase performance is rice, you are retarded. if someone adds a mod that just makes the car look nicer (in the owner's eyes), then its not "rice".

not EVERYTHING has to be about performance.

Personally I MUCH PREFER "go" over "show". I like sleepers. I don't think there's anything wrong with body and interior mods (well some of them anyway). I do think it's funny as hell when some one who's all "show" and no "go" gets his *** handed to him by a someone who put his money into speed.

For resale purposes, however, it's easier to sell a car with all the bling-bling, and flash you can load on it. It's funny, eveyone I know that owns an FD is most interested in racing and/or performance. But everyone that I've met looking to buy an FD (I'm selling mine) is more interested in all the flash. They want the 18's (nevermind they're heavier than the 16lb factory wheels), and the stereo and boxes, BOV's, and anything chrome or polished (cause we all know that makes it faster), big spoilers, J-spec taillights, etc., you name it. BLING SELLS!

It's somewhat funny, but kind of tiring. It's nice to know my car will go to someone who knows something about it and can appreciate it.

I'd choose the "go" over the "show". Performance parts usually hold their value (new), whereas with in car dvd's and lcd tv's and such they get cheaper over time. So get your performance now, and save some money on better "show" equipment later. just my two cents.

I say choose go. You can always add the show as you go along.

research it before you spend a few thousands of dollars on a LCD screen and laptop. Most of the LCD screens use NTSC inputs. In my experience, converting VGA to NTSC sucks ***. There are LCDs with standard VGA resolutions, but those probaly dont come in a pretty case like the alpine ones.

another problem is that the computer screen would be very small on a 4" display. you probaly wouldnt be able to see the text. I would like to put a computer in my car also, but I dont think that technology has evolved to that yet. Or more likely, the technology is there, but there is not enough of a market to warrant that type of product.

oh yeah... go for the dp and PFC. The PFC is great

I already did some of the research. I can get a laptop with video ouptus which either already come with an RCA type of output or can be converted to a RCA. Same with the audio output. They also make adapters so you can play DVD from laptops on regualr TVs. I could also do it like that.

The LCD screen would only be for audio visualizations and DVDs. If I ever used the laptop for data logging I would use the actual laptop.

If I go the laptop route then I would try to chop up my glove box to get it to swing open further and have more space to hold the laptop. That way I can still close the glove box and know one will know its there. Thats still just an idea though.

I still need to do more research though. I've found that most of the computer shops around here don't know what they're talking about.

Oh, and as JoeD pointed out I do have some basic bolt-ons so even if I do go the laptop route my car won't be all show.

Keep the votes and suggestions comeing everybody.

If you are driving a properly maintained FD It should already have enough show......The extra power comes along with better reliability than stock showroom!!!!!!Have fun with your TV when your on the side of the road because of your stock sequential vacuum hose set-up!!!!!!

Well, I have a question. You talk about getting "show", but you only state things inside the car, not many people will even see it.

So why don't you come to a compromise, like getting a nice shiny FMIC, thats 'go' and show' all rolled into one. People will see an FD with a mouth full of metal coming at them and when you pop the hood, you'll have all the nice piping in their....and you'll have the power to back up your car's **** eating grin the FMIC will give it

Actually I was considering that. The only problem is I'm not sure if I'm capable of installing it. I'm thinking of leaning towards a SMIC anyway. But it is still an option.

You can install it, hell, I installed mine. If you get one though, I would get the GReddy if you want more 'show'. I love my Apexi' but the GReddy really hangs down and smiles. The only drawback to that is the GReddy is a much more difficult install.

I mean the idea of having a TV in your car is kinda cool, but like I said, who's all going to see it? And it's not like you can watch it either, you'll just have your bum *** friends hitting you up for a ride all the time.

If you want more 'show' why not go for headlights and a bodykit, you already have the rims, you could have one 'sick' FD, and everyone would see it, not just who's lucky enough to get into your car.

But hey, it's all about personal preference.

One thing about the FMIC, IMO, is that to really get the "show" effect you need an aftermarket front with a larger opening.

The laptop and LCD thing isn't only to show off though. It is also partially for my own convience. I won't have to burn CDs for my car ever again. I just have to keep all my MP3s on the laptop and I can play whatever I want. I can organize different playlist for my MP3s as well. So, Although this would look flashy and cool; thats not the only reason I would do it.

As Far as the exterior mods, I would like new headlights, but I can't justify spending $1000+ on a set of headlights that will light up the road even worse then the stock ones do. I would go for a body kit, but the only ones I really like are the wide body kits an those are WAAAAAAYYYY out of my price range. I'd like to have more "go" before I get a body kit any way.
