VA help with master brake cylinder rebuild

using the following thread as a guide, but really stuck any advice would be most welcomed

i cant figure out for the life of me how to take this first part off. do i pull on the piston?
i've tried putting a socket ratchet head on it and banging it with a hammer.

If you have access to compressed air, a quick burst will push it out. If not, shake and pull and it will come out. With some thick rags you can use channel locks or a vice.
