Help! It's July, it's Texas, and my AC just cut out

Please help me! It is way too hot here to go without AC. Okay, the air isn't cold and there's a kind of screeching from around the glovebox area. It kind of sounds like when the brake pads need to be changed. I know how to do engine work, but AC....no clue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, guys.

Maybe the compressor is out. They sometimes make that noise when they are heading south. If the air isnt cold, then you have a leak somewhere. ID say fix the leak and switch to r-134A cause r-12 is liquid gold!!!

I had the same problem, the sound is coming from the passenger floorboard area/blower. Check the fuses under the hood, should be a 15amp.

When I turn my A/C on it just turns my car into a convection oven. I hear a hissing sound coming from the passenger side. When I get out of my car my *** and back are soaked in sweat. Refrigerant leak possibly?

Seriously, I know what it's like to drive without A/C in the summer. Just avoid city driving and do more highway driving with the windows down.
