Help im a fat dude and cant fit in my FD!!

LOL! hope that subject got your attention.. anyway. i have a 93 touring edition and im 5 ft 8.. im on the portly side. I wanted to know if there are any aftermarket seat rails that would make the driver seat sit ALOT lower than stock height? if so can i order them. Or if it was possible to adapt seats from another car such as honda, acura etc. I only ask because i can pick up jdm recaros for acura for fairly cheap. i searched and sorted through many threads and havent really gotten a great answer..

big guy small seat

your problem is solved i am 5 8 and was 300 have lost some now yrs ago i took driver seat out and took cover off bottom not to hard. take padding off side bosters and saw off the part off that sticks up approx 3inch put it back together you can use zip ties and not hog rings its not a bad job or go to a upholstry shop if you arent handy and have it done the seats are great after this is done.

Same, I'm 6'1" 230lbs and fit comfy as can be. I just need to take my wallet out before I drive anywhere that will take longer than 10 min else it gets annoying.

Have you considered a smaller diameter steering wheel or adding a quick release to make it easier to get into and out of the car?

I'm interested in this. I sit too tall for the FD (touring edition). If I could get an inch out of the seat padding it would help a lot.

I was wondering about the responses when i saw the title....not as bad as I thought

What part of your body isn't fitting well? At 5-8, it can't be the roof line in the touring. So it must be the knees to steering wheel since you could slide the seat back to make room for the belly to steering wheel.

Take a good look at the seat rails in your FD. Stock, the bottom of the seat is just about right on the floor as it is. Even just bolting the seat to the floor without any rails won't give you more than maybe a 1/4 inch more clearance, at least when I looked at mine.

You will have to do a different seat. As recently asked, exactly what part of the car is causing you issues?

its not really as bad as it seems.. i just have a problem with my knees hitting the steering wheel.. gut in the way LOL!!!i figured even if it was even a little lower i can get away with it.. i used to drive porsche 944's and i fit no problems whatsoever.. becuase the seat was fully adjustable and able to be lowered.

Well, different car; you can't really compare the two... You find the FD cockpit to be very cramped, especially when/if you begin to search for aftermarket seats that will actually fit.

Your best bet is going to be to get an aftermarket seat and then a smaller steering wheel. If you don't want to do those, you should probably think about getting something like a Corvette.

you should look up vis seats. my buddy is a bigger guy and has them in his 240 and loves them. he also has to remove the steering wheel before getting in so i would definitly suggest get a detachable wheel

I'm 5'10 @ 145lbs. I fit just fine HAHAHA.

Seriously, if you can't fit in your own car, it's time to lose some weight or buy a different car.

Looks like an aftermarket wheel with a smaller than stock diameter would fix your problem.

Definitly going to try the steering wheel first.thanks again guys for the suggestions, losing weight is the most obvious thing to do which the pounds are falling ) but when i read comments of people who post things such as "oh you shoudnt buy a car you can fit in" or "buy a vette" its really frustrating because i bought the car from originally having close to 8 RX-7's 1st and second gen and this is my first. 3rd gen.. i bought it because ive always loved this car but never had the funds and such to buy it..There always will be heavy people in this world and if you think its going to stop them from ever buying lambos, porsches, ferrari's etc than you are sadly mistaken. i posted this thread originally to find seat choices or seat rails for those who wanted to sit a little lower not a all out preaching of losing weight..again thanks to those who actually had good input on the matter.

Those who buy Lambo's, Ferrari's and such have the money to also have them modified. The simple solution was to spend money but you seemed to be looking for a quick fix. A quick fix is to get a car with more room. You may not like to hear that, but it's the truth.

If you are up for spending money, IMO, you are going to need an aftermarket seat as well as a aftermarket steering wheel to feel "comfortable". I guess I will never understand owning a car I'm not comfortable in as I simply won't do it.... If I'm not comfortable, I either fix it or replace it.

If your not worried aobut spending money, my suggestion would be just what has been stated already... Get a small steering wheel w/ quick release (help with gettting in and out of car) pull the seat out, take to an upholstry shop and have them modifiy it with less padding in the back of the butt, bottom side bolsters, and a little out of the lower back section more so so the seat will feel like it sits lower.. The seat is pretty much as low as its going to get as far as mounting for ride purposes. One thing you have to remember just like you said there is always going to be heavy people, as well as always going to be lets call them "critics" you know the donkey thing...anyways you have to assume when you post a thread like this your goign to brin some out so dont get discuraged take what people are telling you thats of value and apply it the rest just overlook its that easy. Good luck

Chris
