Exclamation !! HELP !! Headlights wont turn off.

Hey guys!

Im having some weird issue with my headlights.

They come on fine when the car is off but when i turn the switch off, they stay on for about a minute or more ( i timed it). When i turn the car ON , they pop up and turn on like after 15-20 seconds after the car has been running and if i try to turn them off they stay on, but i havent timed if they ever turn off while the car is on.

This started to happen after i mounted my pop ups back on the car. At first i thought maybe the motors or one of them was going bad and maybe that was the reason because the headlights WOULD turn off as soon as i turned the switch off but the motors would go down a few seconds after.

Then later on it started where even the headlights would stay on and i basically have to kill the battery power or wait over a minute.

They go up and down fine with the dash push button and even if i unplug the motors, the headlights still wont turn off, i decided to plug my old sleek headlights to see if it would do the same thing and sure enough, it still does it.

I checked the relays on the long fuse box and they work fine, checked the big fuses and they are also fine. Thought maybe was the steering switch handle but whenever i turn the running lights off , they turn off right away but not the headlights.

I searched and read thru a few threads here and couldnt really find something similar to whats happening, so i figured i made this post and see if anyone can help or guide me to what else to look at. I read that the CPU2 also controls headlight stuff, but i dont have an extra CPU2 at the moment to swap and check.
Also looked at the harness to see if maybe a wire is sliced and causing some sort of short, but i dont see anything.

I would really appreciate any input you guys have on this , because its getting pretty annoying lol.

Thanks!

So I went to check the cpu2 and if I unplug the very top connector , my headlights work fine.

Does anyone know what that connector controls?
I'm guessing maybe I blew a resistor inside there and now it's sending constant power to the headlights, but I don't want to leave it unplugged if it does or controls something else. Obviously it's not the right fix.

CPU#2 taps into the headlights as part of the stock alarm system. When the alarm goes off, the headlights pop up and flash and the horn honks.

You can get the wiring diagram out and see what exactly goes to that connector. If it's just stuff for the stock security system you may just want to leave it unplugged.

Yeah , it says it's part of the theft system.

I don't have a factory alarm , but I do see the aftermarket one wired to the middle connector. Just want to make sure I can leave it unplugged.

Took the cpu2 out to look at it.

Top area looks like it had something going on, going to try to clean and fresh it up and see what happens.

I just replaced my CPU2 about 6 months ago for an intermittent no start/no crank (fixed it BTW). New CPU2 was like $220 from Mazda IIRC.

Yeah, i had looked into getting a new one or a good used one.
Atkins has them for like 300+ and i couldnt justify paying that much just for this issue that actually could get passed by , by not plugging that connector lol.

I took the cpu2 to my friend and he took a look at it and refreshed some solder areas that he said had cold spots, plus cleaned all the board and my issue went away
After reading thru manual and some threads, i found out that this also has to do with that annoying click click click start issue. My car was also doing it here and there, and now its also gone!!!

Glad to hear you got it fixed! CPU2 can do some weird things to this car.
