you'll have to remove your fuel pump tree. sounds like the small plastic bob on the end of the tree fell off. that is what tells the gauge what level your fuel is at.

Go into the back hatch, pull up the carpet, look for the metal cover on the driver's side. unplug the connectors, unscrew the cover and pull the entire assy up and out. you'll see a thin metal arm that should have a white plastic square-shaped bob on the end. I'm betting yours broke off. Not sure if you can buy it seperately or not, call ray crowe at malloy mazda, 888 533 3400 to get a price check. Last thing, make sure you disconnect your battery before you go messin' with the fuel pump .

Make sure the ground wire back there isnt disconnected before you start yanking fuel pumps out etc. We swapped my fuel pump and the gauge died and as soon as I opened the access panel I saw the wire just floating there not hooked up.
