Help - Can't rev past 3500 rpm
Ok, before I spend any more time on this, I wanted to see if anybody had any clues. I just got done repairing some wiring, and figured all would be well when I was done. The car does start without any problem, but it idles at around 500 rpm. It also will not rev past 3500 rpm in neutral. At this rpm, it just cuts out and backfires.
The check engine light does not stay on, but if I rev it slowly the light will flicker on and off. I'm not positive, but I think the air pump clutch is clicking whenever the check engine light flashes. Some of the wiring I had to repair was for the crank trigger sensors. I though maybe I had the wiring for the sensors reversed somehow, but I'm pretty sure they are correct. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem to that. Same symptons, but when it got to that RPM it wouldn't backfire or anything, it was just like it couldn't go any higher and was fighting for 3500rpm. That was just from my cats being stopped up. Hope you figure it out...
I don't have a constant check engine light. It only flashes on for an instant when I rev it up slowly. Just to be sure, I checked for codes and there were none.
I also don't have a cat, so that couldn't be the problem. Even if it was, I don't know why the check engine light would flash on and off.

You definitely should look for a bad ground somewhere, maybe a wire got pulled loose when messing with the trigger sensor, although there's not much to replacing one of them it may be possible you forgot something somewhere else. I've only seen that symptom from a bad ground or the harness to the throttle body being off. Either way if you find a bad ground reset the ECU again after fixing it.
Hope this helps...

Ok, I got a few minutes to check things out a little closer this evening. If I rev it slowly, it does fine until it goes over 1500 rpm. At this rpm, the check engine light starts flashing on and off, and it starts to backfire. I can rev past 1500, but no more than 3500. There is definitely something happening at 1500 rpm though.
Does anybody know if there is anything the ecu starts to look at when the rpm reaches 1500? Right now, this is my only clue to the problem.
