Help, cant get my odometer to stay on
Bought this car over a year ago & odometer would work (car was shipped from Japan with many aftermarket parts). Odometer would work until i upgraded my stock ecu that was piggybacked by a apexi. Now running a FT550, new coils, rats nest delete, and FT O2 sensor, etc. Apexi & stock ecu were removed from car, & interior ground cable to cluster is cleaned and mounted properly. Sent cluster out to refurbish and got sent back pics/videos of it working properly. I received it and it would momentarily show odometer or would just show up as black screen. Tested out connectors from stock interior harness and all showed proper voltage. Any ideas what else i could check? odometer momentarily turns on when it wants to but goes away quickly and just shows black screen.

I can't see how it could be related to your replacing ECU or other kind of wiring.
Do you know if they replaced capacitors when your cluster was out for repairs?
Odometer going blank intermittently is a common issue in FDs - it's because some capacitors start to leak over time on the odo/speedo board.

It is very weird, would turn on and show before but now it doesnt. I believe they were replaced them, i sent them out to a reputable repairer (Geoff, hes a member here as well), he sent me pictures and videos of it working when he would plug it in at his house but when i receive it, itll show momentarily or wont show at all. Side note: last time it turned on momentarily i did notice it would come on only when the yellow temperature light would be on, as soon as it would turn off the odometer would go blank afterwards.

@paublo21,
Does your odometer still record mileage when it is blank? Since the display comes and goes, it may also indicate a ground problem. The speedometer uses a ground from the engine block. In most cases, ground is ground. However, the speedo requires a specific ground point. Refer to the Wiring Diagram Manual (WDM), Diagram C-1a. Test that specific ground wire for any potential problems. The most of the gauges on the instrument cluster use another ground point that is close to the cluster. Do not rely on that ground point for the speedometer ground.
It may also be a good time to verify the speedo board capacitors are not leaking. Remove the speedo from the cluster and visually inspect it for any issues. The link armans provided in Post #2 will show you how to check the speedo for leaky capacitors.
