Exclamation HELP - Can't engage in any gear!!

Need your expertise folks:

Car was acting normal, no sign of noise and degrading feel from both clutch pedal and shifter, engagement point haven't changed, nothing feels lose. As I try to put it in first gear, I couldn't. The shifter just won't click in to first. So I tried all the gears: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and reverse. No luck either.

First thing I was thinking - the clutch. But then:

- no grinding noise, nothing snapped.
- even if the clutch disc is busted, you can still engage in a gear
- the clutch haven't slipped before. I doubt it's going bad that fast.

No signs of the clutch going whatsoever.

Second thing I was thinking - clutch cylinders

- no fluid leak, reservior stayed full
- I can still feel the clutch pedal pushing fluid when I press on it.

Here's the troubleshooting done so far by the mechanic.

- Took the slave cylinder out and push the rod in manually, and he's able to engage a gear.
- started the car and do the same thing. Can't get into any gear.

Anybody had similar experience before? I've busted clutch disc before in my other cars, but nothing like this.

Please don't tell me is the tranny, I just fixed the 5th gear synchro 2 years ago.

Any help is welcomed.

Thanks

Can you shift into gears when the engine is off?

If so, soiunds like the clutch is not disengaging, and the sychros cannot bring the gears up to speed. I would try bleeding the system first to see if that helps. Sometimes a little air can prevent the clutch plate from releasing all the way. Good luck.

Nope. the gears won't go in no matter if the engine is running or not.

ohhhhhh....

This is what happened to me.

I could not put it in any gear while car was on. I could put it in gear wwith the car turned off.

My problem was the pilot bearing got stuck. my mechanic had to take apart my tranny and force it free and replace it. labor cost was about $450.

Hope this helps

Ouch. That's my guess too.
