Help: 220-240 Degrees on a hot day w/all cooling mods done

Hi,

I have basically all the cooling mods done w/exception of manual control over the fans. The problem I'm having is after installing a new water temp gauge my temp. readings have shown 22-240 F Degrees on a hot day and easily 220 F, when I'm pushing the car. I have a Koyo radiator installed as well, but I think the problems are there because of my Front mount IC.

My question is this are there any solutions to my problem? Would doing the fan mod significantly help my temps? I've also read a lot about how people direct air to their radiators, especially when they have FMIC's on the car. Any idea how this is done or could someone please post some pics of what it looks like.

I really want to fix the temp. problem so any advice/suggestions are welcome.

Thanks,

Riz

Ducting is done on a case by case basis. I have a FMIC also and ran the car this week on all 3 99 degree days we had and never saw over 190 F. Take a ride down to Crete this weekend and I'll take a look at your setup. By the way, I'm still running the original stock radiator with 112,000 miles on it.

My gauge usually read 220-240*...issue fixed after we tuned the PFC to turn on the fan sooner. Now 180-200*.

Love it!

Are you sure all the air is out of the system? Post some pics of the engine-bay so a diagnosis can be formulated..G

impactwrench: Where exactly is Crete, Illinois? I don't like going on long drives with the 7, so I don't know if that will work. On the 99 degree day is when it was actually getting really hot. especially at idle.

tphan: I'm gonna look into turning on the fans at a much lower temp than the stock computer turns it on.

G's 3rd Gen: I don't know what you mean by "all the air being out of the system." This is the only engine bay pic I have at the moment. I'll take some more pictures when I get back home and post them up to help w/the diagnosis.

BTW: Does anyone know if a Microtech ECU can be programmed to turn the fans on at a lower temp. than the stock computer does?

this may sound really dumb, but for the past 2 weeks my car has been over heating...wanna know why???? b/c my dumb *** thought the coolant was full and it wasnt. when you fill it up it will stay and appear to be full. take it for a 5-10 min ride. let it cool, if its not full you will see that your coolant isnt actually full. repeat over and over untill it stays full.

Riz, just DO the fan mod. Seriously ILL do it for you heh. I mean it mgiht not solve your problems but i guarantee it will help them. I run the fans on high 24/7 since im still on the stocker and it wont pass 200...if im really pushin the car it will go to like 220 then drop right back to 200. And this is during our heat right now. On normal days its 180-90 all day long

Just double-checking that you have the FC thermoswitch, right? Because that little jewel is THE ticket to cooler temperatures, believe me!

No, I don't. Could anyone tell me exactly what parts to buy and where in order to do the "fan mod." I'll take care of the installation myself. Thanks.

The FC-thermoswitch mod only applies to FD's still running the "stock" ecu. Since he just stated that he has a microtech, and that it does have fan control capabilities. Figure out a way to program the microtech to run the fans at lower temps.

You don't need the FC switch, Microtech allows fan on temp adjustments.

Cool. I must've looked over your original comment about the Microtech. I'll be having installed, hopefully within the next week or two and I'll make sure to adjust the fans accordingly. Thanks guys for all the help.

BTW: I forgot to mention it earlier, but my AST cap seems to leak randomly. I've found coolant residue around the AST several times, but since it wouldn't leak usually under the car I wouldn't notice it. I've been having to add small amount of coolant every several days. I tried using a different AST cap, but that caused a HUGE problem. It didn't fit quite right apparently and I had the entire coolant drain out of the car. Took it back to the shop, put the stock AST cap back on and same random coolant leak problem.

I've finally decided that I'm sick of this ****, so I purchased a brand new AST, so hopefully that should resolve all my coolant problems.

The reason I decided to mention this is to figure out whether this could also be contributing to my elevated temps? Let me know. Thanks.
