Hello! Investigating RX7's, newbie here...

Wall, hi there! If you look at my profile, you would not be impressed. Right now I drive I a valiant little 96 Geo Metro 3-speed automatic, with a bent frame (only a little), and missing the front bumper...LOL!
BUT-
I know I'm getting a new car come springtime! At first I felt lost amongst a sea of cars. I was rather directionless in my searching. The Geo is actually insanely reliable, for all the things wrong with it, plus the fact that she has almost 200k on her (just topped over 180k, last week), so at first I was looking at another Metro... but then I started seeing this guy... this GUY... and he has 2 very nice cars ( an MR-2, and a Honda S-2000)...and suddenly I REMEMBERED! I remembered what it wal like to be able to fly on the road, to jst GO.... (my first car was a VW super-beetle w/ a corvair engine dropped into her...). I was still pretty lost though... there are all KINDS of zippy fast high performance cars out there... what to choose? What to choose!? And then I saw an ad in the "Bargain News" for an RX7 Convertible, and suddenly I also remembered being a teeny-bopper & sighing my heart out after that car. DECISION MADE!
So, come spring, I WILL HAVE an RX7. But there are so many years, styles... turbo? Dual turbo? What does this mean? I wanted to sign up here, to get advice, hear opinions, and hopefully come spring, be armed with a load of info with which to make an informed purchase.
Once I get used to her, I also want to look into possibly autocrossing with the car of my dreams. After all, there's little point in having a car like this if you can't "really put her through her paces", right? My new beau is really enthusiastic about my mentioning my interest in an RX7, and actually said this is a very popular autocrossing car! Cool...
But I need to lean alot. I hope you good people can help me out between now & April !

Nahhh... I kinda like the look of the 1st Gen... 2nd...so-so, 3rd is nice, but gonna be out of my price range, so you're safe there. I'm hoping to get away with something under $5k. I'm also considering getting one cheap (ideally convertible...) with a blown engine & dropping a new heart into her.

PS- One of the things I really like about the RX7 is the rotary engine. I only learned what a "rotary engine" IS about a month ago, but one of the things that drew me to the idea is how damn feminine it is.... the whole circular concept.... can you tell I know swquat about machinery? lol But really- I'm surprised I haven't seen this forum just LOADED with female enthusiasts....though I'm new here & may yet discover otherwise.

who the hell moved this after i already moved it to the lounge?
WTF??

how would this be 3rd gen specific? i felt the lounge would be more appropriate and give the kids the chance to voice their opinion about generations of rx7's. (something car related, something other than thongs )
whatever....
