Hello all, new here

Ive been lurking for a while now, Im pretty sure my next car is going to be a 3rd gen rx7. The only thing Im not too sure of is the cost involved. It won't be my daily driver, just a toy. Im looking to purchase one between 9-12k. I know it might be on the low end of the price range, but Im prepared to wait a while for a good deal to jump on. I have a Dakota Im selling to offset the cost as well. Im really into motorcycles, that's my biggest hobby, but never had a really nice sports car. I've been pretty excited about it and researching them a good deal. It's almost hard to talk to people about the car, I haven't met one person yet who knew anything about it. I was told last night that, "yeah, they're good cars, you just have to watch the crank seals". I was like, ...ok, thanks. To everyone who owns one here and doesn't drive it all that often, is it really that expensive to keep running? It seems that everyone has had to get a new engine or rebuild the turbos. I couldn't afford to do that more than once. Can you get five good years out of an engine and turbos with no problems? I would do the guage mods and take very good care of it, but if it's gonna be continuous repairs, I'm really not at the point in my life to own one. Thanks to everyone who answers, and btw... what is the stuff in the trunk that looks like heater duct or something. Alot of the pics of the trunks have this on both sides and the rear. -Dan

Well it can't haul your bikes around like the Dakota. With these cars you really get what you pay for. Everything depends on mileage and maintenance, not really years, but yes they will last 5 years if kept up.

That's the Bose tube in the trunk, only comes on the Touring models.

Heh I saw the author and was like "When did I post that?"

I'm buying my RX7 tommarow and have been lurking for a few weeks. Seems like the FD experience can either be a nightmare or a wet dream.... or a mix of both. I'm gonna go ahead and take the risk. Good luck if you do too!

yep...watch the "crank seals"

look around here a little more. all your questions will be answered.
www.robrobinette.com has a write up on purchasing an FD.
the *heater duct* is the factory sound system that was in some models. you will read all about this stuff in your quest for more knowledge about them.

" but Im prepared to wait a while for a good deal to jump on"

heh, yeah, I did that once,
ended up with a car that had been in a wreck,
engine fire, odometer rollback, AND to top it all off,
the engine blew.
I lost 9 grand cuz i was young and naive

dont be stupid,
save your cash, be picky,
and GET IT CHECKED OUT PROPERLY!!!

p.s. i am now broke.. and cant wait until I can afford
another FD !! hahaha.. these things rule
