heater problem

hey every1,
So it was about 35 degrees in STL today, and it was cold as ***** getting into my car that was sitting outside. However, i noticed that the heater only works in certain positions. It fully works in the defrost, a little cooler in the floor/defrost, same in the floor, lukewarm in floor/dash, and totally ICE cold in the dash position. Anyone know what would cause that cuz im stumped.

Don't ask me why but your heater works exactly as Mazda intended it too; you can't get heat from the dash vents.

When it's cold I use the defrost/floor setting as that at least puts heat out the top and bottom of the dash.

Yep, only the floor vents put out heat (it's actually in the owners manual).

okay new question....my hot/cold dial only has three settings, all the way cold, all the way hot, or middle, a little to the hot side. It got broken the day my passenger turned it too far and ever since then it only clicks in those certain regions. Can i just replace that one part or do i have to swap the entire climate control ordeal?

They are all one unit as far as removal and assembly... I'm sure you can just get "that" particular one though... some how. Hang on... I have a pic somewhere...

Ok... Can't find the damn pic... And the camera battery is dead... But it LOOKS like you can remove the individual controls and replace them. The cable for each one unplugs, and I'm pretty sure the switch can be removed...
