heater hose connector question

I'm in the process of putting all the components back on my new motor but I'm having a hell of a time attaching that black coolant tube which the heater line connects to. Could someone take a look at this picture and confirm that I have the o-rings and spacers in the right order? Also is there any trick in getting the black tube to clip back on?

I do not use the breakable plastic part . Just put the hose on the metal tube and clamp it .

Agreed, just remove the black plastic piece entirely. The reason it is there is to facilitate the installation of the engine at the factory, but it serves no other purpose AFAIK and it's just another weak link in the cooling chain. Mine started leaking several years ago and I just removed it and clamped the hose to the block nipple. No problems since.

From experience - if you don't remove the plastic quick disconnects and just slip it over the nipple and double clamp the hose - it will leak later on and you'll wish you would of.

I was so fixated on getting it reassembled that I didn't stop to think that I actually didn't need that part. However, I did get it reassembled and if it leaks it's going to be removed. Thanks for the tip GARCO.
