If the Field (?) fuel computer is a piggy back, then you will definitely need a Boost Fuel cut defencer. If you hit a certain boost pressure, teh stock ecu will cut your fuel. This item keeps this from happening. No Fuel = lean conditions.

What is fuel cut off at - 12 or 14psi? Anybody?

Hey, what do you know? I have a brand new Greddy 3rd gen specific Fuel Cut Defencer for sale!

I would go ahead and get the Power FC though. You really can't beat that price that's going on right now.

The only reason why I was doing this chop/paste ecu (piggy back, fuel cut defencer) solution thing was because I have an automatic, and it's tied into the stock ecu. Stand alone ecus do not support autos.

I have decided to do a manual swap though, so I just ordered a PFC.

Best of luck!

Yeah, I would also seek a better fuel computer. The PowerFC is a very good choice (works great, very easy to install), as is the Haltech (works great, much harder to install, but more people can tune it).

The stock fuel cutoff is not at just a single psi, but involves boost, RPM, and the amount of time you have been over the limit. The short answer is that it is about 12 psi, but that doesn't quite capture the complexity of what is going on.

If the Field fuel computer just changes the MAP sensor signal, you will hit fuel cut at even lower pressures. I don't know anyone that has used this on an FD, and it is well known that most of the generic piggy-backs don't work well at all for this application and the stock ECU.

You'll need a fuel pump, too. A Denso pump like the Cosmo or Supra one will probably work fine, as would a cheaper Walbro pump.

Definetly go standalone save your cash from piggyback hell and go standalone. I have a 95' MKIV and we just heard about AEM releasing a ECU system for our cars but at the same time APEXi is releasing one finally about same time beginning next year. Being a supra owner we spend up to like $6k in piggybacks (bcc, bc, tt, vpc, gcc) and you could even go other ways but in the end it's money to cut up your car and rtun off all these small boxes... plus your car never runs right and idles like ****. With a standalone everything can be fine tuned to your need and there is no ceiling. GO STANDALONE!

Hey Max,

So how about a scenerio where you have larger injectors/fuel goodies and you are using the piggy back to turn down (assuming you make sure the fuel upgrades provide much more fuel then needed @ desired hp level) the fuel on the stock ecu? Do you think it would encounter the same problem?

This was what was brewing in the little head of mine as a solution to the auto/fuel upgrade. No longer something I need to consider, but would be good for auto owners to know - thanks!
