Headlamp lids

So... I was driving along, stopped at lights and popped the lights up. Big bang. Driving away, the passenger side lid started to fall away and after about a mile, dropped off. I've had a good look and found that the drivers one is cracked too.

Two questions:

1. Is this a common fault?
2. Anyone know what size bolts I need to secure the new one as it seems they have vanished with the lid!

Thanks,
Kym

ps, apart from that, had my FD 3 weeks and loving it!

Congrats on the new car!

Yep. It's pretty common. I'll bet your bolts and part of the cover are still attached to the car. The tabs that hold the covers on are made out of plastic, and after 10-15 years or so, they get brittle and are prone to failure. lol, mine have been epoxy'd about 10 times!

If you call Malloy Mazda and ask for Ray, they're pretty inexpensive, but you'll have to get 'em painted.

What Natey said. I had the same thing happen to me driving up the interstate. Popped the lights and away it went. I ordered two from Malloy, replaced both and have not had them painted. Oh well at least it is symmetrical and when I get the car painted they will be too.

Cheers Nate. I'm in the UK, but got the new parts from Jimmies RX7 - excellent.

the front 2 bolts are still there, but the back ones are definitely gone (I guess that was the cause of the lid going). so I still need to know what size to get. Anyone any ideas?
