Hayes Silicon/Teflon Coolant Seals

I'm planning on rebuilding a spare motor (no problems, but the motor in my car is at 64K) and would like to know if anyone using the Hayes Silicon/Teflon Coolant Seals has a review.

How long in use? Mileage?

Any o-ring failures (if yes, was it overheated or just wear & tear)?

Thanks,

John

i've had em since KDR did my ported motor 10k ago. No problems, but then again i haven't given them any reason to have problems. They weren't very expensive, so why not?

I believe FD3Boost had a problem with aftermarket O-rings sealing...but 10k on some like ptrhahn, ain't a bad number.

I GOTTA GET THE HEAT OUTTA MY BAY...IT'S KILLING ME!!!

scared to get a vented hood, bumper fitment...

10k miles? Thats nothing. These things better outlast the rest of the engine...

theres no reason, if treated properly, the stock ones won't last 100k either... the silicon ones are just supposed to stand more heat/gasses before they're toast.

Short of overheating the engine and warping the rotor housings, I agree. I'm more concerned with the wear & tear (heat cycles) issue...

Regarding the same topic, anyone used their stainless steel protectors?

I had Hayes seals installed on my rebuild done at about 87K, along with 3mm Apex seals, still pulls verrry strong now at 105K.

silicone = soft stuff that you can make o-rings and fake "cones" out of
silicon = hard like glass, used to make computer chips

I remember reading that you could buy teflon and silicone o-rings from McMaster.com for very little money.

Good point, Max. I copied "silicon" from their web site without thinking about it...

I seriously doubt they manufacture the o-rings anyway. They just mark them up and resell them...
