is it bad to not do a conversion? does it put excess stress on the rack if u dont convert it? will parts deteriorate faster?

I deleted my p/s with the loop kit back in 2001 or 2002 and have had no problems at all.

I am sending my steering rack into Maval this monday. They quoted me 279.99 plus shipping, using my core. I wanted them to use my personnal core because it is low mileage. Also does anybody know what else I need to take off of my steering rack before I send it to them? (Refer to the pics below).

Thanks,
Phil

removing the p/s and a/c negatively impacts the re-sale value of the car....some people will flat out not buy it in that condition

other than that, I say go for it....I'm keeping mine for now, the a/c is nice to have

What happened to them only charging $165? That's a heck of a price hike.

I will post the price tomorrow when I get off of the phone with them. Maybe they got confused on what I wanted to have done?

NO, don't be such a pussball and just drive without it. Same goes with AC, too.

I am having a custom tensioner pulley made so that I can keep my AC. I am also cutting off most of the AC/PS metal bracket. I don't know about you guys, but in FL it is HOT.

i removed the AC from my old FC. most stupid mod i ever did!!! i would never consider removing the PS. it really comes down to you peresonally and what you use the FD for. but this weight issue is a bit of **** unless it's a full time track car

i removed my AC a couple years ago with absolutely no regret when i went single turbo. I think ill stick with my PS though. I had a 66 mustang with manual steering and hated it, and my father has a turbo II with manual steering and i am not that impressed with its "road feel". I think the power steering on our cars are very precise and still allows to feel the road, especially at higher speeds. If you enjoy the cars you have driven without the power steering, and you dont use AC anyways, the you have already made up your mind for yourself. I say go for it.

Does anyone know if this Mavel conversion can be done to an FC (S5) pwr steering rack? If not, would an FD rack fit in an FC?

Removing powersteering was one of the best "free" mods I've done, love the way the car feels without it. I don't have a/c either, but it's not a daily driver and in wisconsin you only need it a handful of days a summer anyway.

Yea, I know, but then you have the problem of the lower 15:1 ratio just like for the FD.

I just got off the phone with Maval and I will be sending in my steering rack tomorrow. Since I wanted to use my low mileage core, they took $65.00 off of the $279.00 price. So it cost me a total of 214.00 for the manual steering rack conversion using my low mileage core.

ive asked maval to do the same with my core years ago...
even marked the rack... they did not send mine however...
they maintain a stock of converted ones and send one out as soon as they get an order with core...
really dont undertand the concern about usin your low mileage.. considering your practically gettin a rebuilt rack..
and most of the components to fail from mileage or age are eliminated or replaced...
