I have beat C5's on a dig. The debate I have always had afterwards is whether the driver knew how to get it down the road (i.e., launched and shifted).

coolvette: I kept my 98 C5 because it was faster than my 94 FD, but I kept the FD too because it is more fun to drive. Time for more mods.

A Z06 will easily beat an FD.

3100lbs 405 hp w/ much bigger tires
2800lbs 255hp

Not even close.

If you're not making over 300rwhp you have no chance.

Of course this is only when considering equal drivers hehe

Basic bolt ons at 11 or 12psi are good for approx 300 + rwhp so you should easily beat a c5 but a Z would be a close competitor. I know it's only 40 more hp but it's about 200lbs lighter and it's much better at putting the power down because of the tires.

Would a stock FD with just intakes, dp, catback, and non-sequential twins @ 10psi take a C5? Z06?

C6 maybe?

Cause in my old Turbo II @ only 10-12psi which had me at roughly 270rwhp beat C5's all day, Z06's were close, and I owned Evo's, 350Z's, S2000's, '03 Cobra's, and even some WS6's. My brother who, in his SR'd S13 hatchback 240SX even pulled on a 402hp Camaro SS, and the only thing his 240SX had over my FC was low-end torque. He couldn't even pull on me until he turned it up to 15psi on his T-28 turbo, and even then, he pulled maybe two cars near the end of 3rd gear.

Only thing that beat me was a super-charged and modded mid-90's Cobra from just a 1st-2nd gear roll (at which my FC only got like 8-9psi anyways), and he only pulled a car.

In my FD @ 8psi on my current setup I got beat by a modded WS6 from a 1st-2nd gear roll. He only pulled 1 1/2 cars on me.

8psi though...c'mon now...

This all coming from an FD and american muscle car lover.

the 1.3L claimed displacement only bothers the uninformed V8 owner that doesn't understand how both engines operate. The displacement comparison is a tad skewed.
50K for a C5? or did I miss something?
A relatively cheap H/C package on an LS1 powerplant can warrant some nasty timeslips so to say that a C5 isn't worthy in comparison to the FD is a gross misjudgement.

I have a friend with a C6 and with a drag launch I've taken him a few times past 60 there pretty close. The vette has the advantage with launches though just about anyone can get a sub 5 second 0-60 every time rev 2500 drop the clutch and hang on next shift 62mph. As for rolling starts he kills me every time.

Yes, a modded fd(mine) will beat a stock c5.I never got to mod my c5 because it was a lemon, and i couldnt keep it out of the dealership.I do think that a stock c5 with just a 150 shot of nos would prob beat me .They run great on it.

I beat a C5 at auto-x in my class... by 0.09 seconds. Decent driver.. still need a little more power and rubber to beat the better ones though.

I'm aiming for 350+ whp for '06.

fd brakes are awesome for the first couple of stops

but the car is 10-12 years old. i'm sure the brakes will be better if mazda comes out with a "new" rx7. we'd be better off comparing the fd brakes to a c4 vette to make it a little more fair.
