have to replace my brakes and rotors...is this a fair price
So long story short, I knew my brakes, at least the pads, had to be replaced soon. A car shop had to replace a tire stud because one of the lugs was cross threaded by the tire shop. My pads are basically bare and the rotors supposedly need to be replaced. (car has 60k miles, I'm assuming the brakes haven't been replaced since I bought the car with 29k in 2003).
The place quoted me at $583 to install the rotors and pads. NO CLUE on the brands
80 labor
80 per rotor (x4)
85 for front pads (x2)
70 for rear pads (x2)
I would do this all myself, but I am going on a 1000 mile road trip in 2 days and just don't have the time to install them or even get the parts.
I called up Midas (a different brake place), and they quoted me $300 over the phone.
Is $583 overpriced, or is the $300 job likely more legit (or is it a bait and switch, and they will charge me more when I go in for an actual quote). I know this is a tough question because I don't have part numbers or anything, but I wasn't given any and this is pretty much a spur of the moment job.
Thanks
