Toluene

any stories or experiances.

 

I know they use it to thin paint. I've used it to clean car parts (VERY effective). How would it effect our oil dependent combustion process? Solvent + oil = not so lubricated anymore?

How come no one tries actual eight carbon octane? Just order it from any chemical supply house...

 

Because C8 OCTANE by definition only has an octane rating of 100
Octane ratings are a measure of knock resistance RELATIVE to OCTANE where OCTANE has a Rating of 100 and a rating higher than 100 = MORE Knock Resistance and a rating lower than 100 = LESS knock Resistance than OCTANE.

 

Years ago we used toluene as one component of our poor boy racing fuel. As I recall we added a small percentage to adjust molecular weight so that the fuel would pass technical inspection. However, it was also reported to be very bad on the engine internals, not to mention to humans.

 

i have used toluene in all of my cars except my rx7 and have had no adverse effects....infact i think its awsome fuel for the money....but im afraid the fragile nature of the rotary motor may not be compatible with the properties of toluene...im no scientist so i cant really advise on its use but i can say that i use it in my piston motors and it allows for a higher boost setting and yields the best detonation prevention short of 110 gas!!(and water injection)...those old school formula cars runnin' big boost used it also....

 

I have used it in piston motors before but after extented use found it to kill fuel pumps and rubber hoses and it is extremely cancerous! the maximum mixture to use is 30% toulene.
