Hatch Support Truck Mount Wing?

Hi everyone,

Disclaimer: This isn’t a track car. It’s just a street/parking lot show car with the occasional high speed highway pull! I know they’re not functional, and actually more performance hindering, at low speeds….BUT, it’s just for looks! Don’t hate me too much…

Any concerns with truck mount wings like Battle Aero’s or GTC-300/500 in regards to the oem hatch supporting it? Does anyone have any experience with the hatch becoming bent or deformed? Any need to do some load distributing some how?

thanks in advanced!!

Hey there! This isn't exactly relatedd to the hatch itself, but....if you're putting a sizeable wing on an oem trunk, the dampers will not work as intended. The oem dampers are potentially decades old, and warn, and adding additional weight onto their load certainly won't help. If you do end up getting a large wing, we sell hatch dampers specifically for heavier-than-stock hatch applications which will making the opening the hatch so much easier! Chek them out on our site :^)

no concerns for your application other than the attraction of haters lol

if you have non oem 99 hatch struts then it wont support the additional weight so youll have to upgrade. r-magic sells a set that are direct bolt on and lets the hatch open on its own actually. as soon as you pop it, it just lifts up. this is is with the weight of an oem 99 wing on it so for the wing youre trying to install, you will likely have the same effect.

Yes, I bent my trunk doing high speed pulls. RE Amemiya wing with old style 2 bolt support. The newer style uses a big base pad, should be OK.

He said highway car. Oz has huge empty highways for hundreds of miles.

Speed? No idea. Speedo only reads to 180kmph. Did a few pulls though the top of 4th. so yeah. Somewhere in there.

Allegedly.

I was curious about this, do you have any info on the new mount style pad?
