IT HAS BEGUN: flyboyjuge finally painting the fd
hey guys, well after two years of cruising with my chaste white and primer FD, the time has come to paint it. if you guys want i will take pics of the process and all that. and yes me and my buddy are doing it all ourselves. we have experience but this is our first "high profile" job. le me know if you guys want pics. but the car will consist of:
99spec bumper
apexi sideskirts
mazdaspeed hood color: GM artic white with a white pearl

Arctic White is a good white.....I just had my FD painted about a month or two ago. Looks 10x better than Chaste white. I look forward to seeing some pics of the pearl, I decided to not go with any pearl in mine, just wanted it pure white.

i got the hood from a guy here on the forum...it is a carbon fiber rep from atilla...was used so i picked it up for 550 bones...
i didnt want to much of a pearl..l only want people to see it if they are looking for it...so i chose the white pearl

update: car is completely sanded. have to wash the car down, do a few more body work touch ups...and then hi build primer some spots. especially where the antenna was shaved and on the doors where i sanded the rock guard off. after the high build goes on sand the car one more time and then spray the door jams and the jams where the hatch is. still a long road to go but it is getting there. let me know what ya guys think.
looking good.
ive painted a couple of cars so if i may give some tips on my expirences.
make sure you use a high quality paint gun, you will be sad if you dont.
use good filters in the compressor lines for water.
make sure you have lots of light, and just when you think you have too much. add another light. its hard to see everything in a garage, esp since you been inhaling paint fumes for a couple hours, which goes to #4.
but a good filter mask, dont even try to do it with those thin paper things from home depot.
make sure you have plenty of ventilation sucking air out of the garage or the paint in the air will settle on the car.
good luck and keep us updated

thanks guys. yeah our ventilation system is actually two box fans in the door. hasnt failed us before. and you know xstrans am... i use to totally agree with you about the gun but in the past couple of instances, my favorite gun is a little no namer i got for 40 bucks. but we use inline gun filters and good filters off the compresser to try to prevent water.

update: well i made another purchase yesterday....vertical doors! the good thing about these doors is if i dont want to make them go up...then they open regular style. this slows down my process now because i will install the kit first and line the doors up so i dont mess up my door jams. so i am pretty much at a stand still until the kit comes in. the doors are now off the car and awaiting the kit. will post pics of this as well

update: 99spec bumper finally came in...apexi sideskirts are on there way... the doors are off the car and expoxy primed. the car needs a bit more body work and another good coat of hi build primer on some spots. will have paint on the car by this sunday...hopefully!
Looks good!
Looks good I can't wait to see the finished project. I like the MS hood too! Wish I could afford one. I am saving up to have my car repainted next year. Was it hard to remove the sunroof?
