Has anyone removed the bracing inside the doors for weight reduction?

I forgot what the inside of my doors look like and can't remember if the bracing can be cut out or removed. In most cars, the door bar is about 20 lbs each.

Anyone have picures?

They're not that heavy, and I'd want the extra protection, on the street or track, unless I had some robust door bars.

I've got door bars (Cage)........ If they aren't that heavy then how heavy are they? Have you weighed them?

Carbon fiber doors! If you search there is a link to a guy who was making them for M3's but he would make them for any car...

(Sorry can't help with the weight...)

Carbonman or whatever his screenname is makes CF doors for FD's. It'll cost crazy $$$ and you'll have to have them shipped from Australia.

There is a pic with the inner door skins cut out, I doubt that removed much weight though. I'm not sure if you could remove that main crossbar or not... if you did the door would probably be flimsy as ****.

BTW, the pic is from the shock drifting LS1 FD build.

The door "bars" aren't like the bars you're thinking of. You just cut the framework out of the door. There's still a flat piece running along the inside of the skin, but it would be difficult to remove.

If it's a track-only car, remove the windows and related hardware. That's a significant amount of weight.

As long as you have the cage, it can't hurt to take out the bracing. As long as it's possible. I would think every little bit helps in a track car. Besides, I think our doors are heavy as ****! Alot heavier than the ones on any car I've owned, 'cept maybe my old Pontiac Catalina.

Yeah, scratch that plan. I'm still keeping my power windows etc. etc........... By removing that door bar, it looks like the door would get warped out of shape.

Back on my quest for weight reduction

I'm already running the carbond fiber hatch and fal window. I don't want to remove the glass from the front windshield. It scratches too easy......

My car weighs 2,295 but I want to get it around 2,230. I'm removing all of my sound deadner, heatcore, blower motor, ac core and a bunch of other stuff from behind the dash this weekend. We'll see how far that takes me.

I'm still keeping my stereo.

Wow, that's light! How much of that was from the CF hatch? Any other items you've removed that turned out to be heavy?

Nothing really, just a bunch of small stuff.

I'm not exactly sure how much weight I lost by using the c/f hatch...

LUPE, for the past few days you've been making me laugh man. "THE MAN ON A QUEST FOR A LIGHTER FD" haha you come up with some **** though haha ^5. Man your car is already light as ****. Is your car fully raced? Ever driven on the street? If never driven on the street, you might as well get rid of the stereo, and pw. It's just pointless. Not like you're going to hear you're music when your driving your race car....Just my 2 cents.

Come to think of it, how did you fit cage door bars in there without removing the door panels?

They're formed around the door panels.

How in the hell did you lose 500 lbs and keep a full interior?
