Guys who moved their BOV to a different location

I've had the Greddy elbow with the flange for the bov on my car for a few months now. Anyway, I was driving the other day after I finally got my boost problem corrected. I get on it on the highway and I am boosting perfectly. All of a sudden I hear, poof fwoooosh and my boost went to zero. I pulled over, popped the hood and noticed the "cap" I made to go on the Y pipe nipple flew off. So I was wondering, how did you guys seal that nipple on the y pipe? I've been searching for 2 hours now and I'm dead tired. So Mahjik, you seem to be the all solver of my problems, you got a thread you can point me to or a solution?

You can weld it shut, clamp down the cap really well, or JB weld it then clamp a cap over it to make sure. That's the best way. I have yet to see a car blow the JB weld and cap arrangement. Even one that was boosting over 20psi. I hope that helps some. Laterz.

MY mechanic has one on the greedy elbow and the two stock ones in place . The prespool one is now a bov . They are open under light vacuum which is not the best thing. He has been able to take one apart and will change the spring so it will open under higher vacuum when the throttle is shut at higher rpm . This will improve the low end responce . They are there why not use them . The diaphram is light and fast. they are paid for . Using them is cheaper than paying a welder to close the holes . If he did not use them they would be welded up and buffed out of sight .

You can also tap and plug the holes with a nice big bolt.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I was thinking about taking a bolt and jb welding it in. No I didn't have the hose clamped down. I thought I did, but when I opened my glove compartment today, I saw that I had forgotten to do so.

cause it's cheap, looks like crap; can chip off and fall into your intake tract, bolt could fall in, it may disrupt air flow. there are more negatives than positives. Just try clamping it down good since you said you didn't have it clamped before. If it doesn't work have it welded shut by someone who knows what they are doing. Don't treat the car like a 84'civic. Cap should work if clamped tightly. Good luck.

or just put the stock bov back in place and vent it to the air. jbweld is never a good idea to use on anything that goes into the engine. boost will have enough force to chip it away. . . along with the heat that is gonna be there. jbweld is doodoo. if you arent gonna weld it shut, then put a cap back on and clamp it down.

you cant thread that hole it is too thin for anything to work right. besides, you dont want a bolt in the way of the intake flow. . . the huge nipple in that area is bad enough.

Well after some hard boosting with the cap and clamp on, it seems to be holding up fine. I guess I'll look into welding it if it blows it off with the clamp on. Oh, and I'm assuming the Efini Y pipe comes with the same nipple.

boostedrex, your idea would work fine if the jbweld is ONLY on the outside of the nipple. using it as a means to seal and "glue" the cap to the nipple. that would be an added helper. . . but im sure the clamp will do. haha.

Talking

wanna hear something really dumb? Im bored so here it goes...

TRUE STORY....

my friend has a 93 rx7 (we call it frankenstein). he is such a moron and knows nothing about FD's (or engines & turbos at all)... his car has 130,000 miles on the body (with his lovely replica veilside body kit, and ebay special aluminum wing!), hes on his 3rd engine (he keeps destroying them because he tries to work on it himself) and he is just an idiot in general.

anyway the other day i went by his house to tell him i was going to japan. I was going to ask if he wanted me to bring anything back for his car. i walk up to his door and knock (and I quickly took a peek in the window to see him watching TV). he came to the door and answered, then said, hey ill meet you around by the garage. So, i walk around to the garage and wait for the door to open....but instead i hear the hood pop on his car, and then the sound of wrenches rattling around. the garage door goes up, and he walks out with a random wrench in his hand. he was wearing his usual outfit of a white wife beater and tan cargo shorts, and he quickly wiped grease off the wrench onto his shirt to make it look like he had been hard at work on his car.

I follow him into his garage as he starts telling me about how, "pettit racing must have given me a bad ECU because it keeps acting up", whatever that means...

He put the wrench down, and picked up a screw driver. As he ducked down into the passenger side of the car, I asked him what he was doing.

"taking out the ECU so I can plug it back in after a few minutes. It should take care of the problems I hope," he quickly replied.

I didn't want to waste my time (it's hopless) so I just ignored his odd reply. As I started to tell him why i was dropping by for a visit, I took a look under his recently popped hood. The first thing I saw was a new blow off valve, the turboXS one with the huge horn on it. I keep looking, and noticed that he also had a greddy type-s BOV attached closer to the maifold. Further inspection revealed the stock BOV's still attached but vented into the engine bay.

In between muffled laughter I managed to choke out,"FOUR BLOW OFF VALVES?"

"Yep, that's right! Isn't it sweet?" he exclaimed as his head popped up from behind the passenger's door.

He still had a screw driver in his hand, but the ECU was nowhere to be seen. As I looked at him, I noticed his drivers window was on the ground leaning up agains the wall next to him.
"why is your window removed?" I asked.

He stood up and put the screw driver down. (I don't know what he had been doing down there because I noticed the ECU was on top of the toolbox about 3 feet from me...) He walked around to the drivers side and opened the door and called me over. A quick hand motioned for me to look in though the window. I peered in, and quickly glanced at all of the cracked and chipped interior pieces, with the neglected (never been cleaned) tan leather seats.

"they drilled though my window motor when installing the power locks so I had to take the glass out," he stated.

"who did?" I asked.

"the stereo place," he replied, "they were installing power locks on my car and when they drilled a hole to mount the switch, they drilled into the window motor"

(why was he having power locks installed when the car comes standard with power locks, ill never know).

"yeah that stinks, but I was just coming over to ask you if you wanted anything from japan. Im leaving tomorrow and I will be there for two weeks." I blurted out to quickly change the subject to something more productive.

With these words his eyes lit up and he exploded with excitement. "YOURE GOING TO JAPAN?!?"
(I think I heard a light bulb click on inside his head)

"CAN YOU BRING ME BACK SOME J-SPEC PARTS?"

yeah so I eventually made it out of there, but I think I lost a little intelligence simply by brushing elbows with my good buddy. If you took the time to read the whole story, good job. I am pretty bored right now because its late and I cant sleep. Tomorrow im taking the bullet train to Osaka so I think ill sleep then. i want to post a picture of my buddy's awesome ride, but my image server is down right now. maybe you have heard of this legendary car and driver before though... You may know it as "the R" or "the X" or maybe even more common name: "the 7". Once in awhile I hear combinations such as "the RX" or the "X7". He claims that people nickname his car with all these retarded abbreviations, but I think he is just suffering from acute mental retardation. Oh crap, im getting back into a story now...heh ok im out.

your friend needs serious mental help. tell him that there are plenty of folks willing to make that thing a car again before he turns it into a campbells soup can.

I have a clamped nipple over mine and have never had any problems. As everyone said just make sure it is tight.

Hey boostedrex don't worry about it, I give bad advice all the time but I just wanted to know how everyone else has done it and I could decide on my own. You just never realize that 10psi of boost is actually a good amount of pressure, so everything needs to be tightened down well.

Fujikuro... 4 bovs? I can't even come up with a response. But I hate to say, I've seen just as bad on other cars. Some guy with a civic thought my twin intake system was so cool he decided to fabricate on of his own for his car. Now THAT's weird.

put the red super-duper locktite on the plug and put the plug on the nipple. let it sit overnight run the car a little... I'm tellin you man, you'll have to scrape that thing off in the future. I did that to my vacume lines and it works like a champ!
