Question Guys, What is my next mod ???

After doing considerable research and shopping for a good deal on parts. I've been steadily tweaking my motor for the last year adding every bolt-on that I can get my hands on.

I need to also get my car dyno'd soon. I'm really curious about how much rwhp i'm putting down with my mods. Any guesstimates? I'm thinking 315 rwhp...

Also with an M2 Stage III re-chippped ecu, is there any "tuning" that can be done to extract every once of power out of my car, reliably/safely of course?

Guys check out my sig. and please give me an idea what you might think my next logical mod should be. I'm really happy with the way the car is running now. But there's always the next step....

Thank you in advance,

John

Get the Front Sway bar Reinforcer as well since you are installing the Front Sway bar.

I'd get a PowerFC and datalogit if you are looking to extract more hp from tuning an ECU.

1.A real boost controller (profec b)
2.Fuel Pump
3.Injectors
4.Power FC if you can afford it.

btw dave sorry for that VERY weird phone conversation yesterday. Between my phone going out and the frigen accident I bet you think I'm a psycho haha. Nobody believes me about the accident because it looks like the back bumper got hit in the parking lot by someone going 3 mph. And that poor silverado's front chrome bumper was all smashed in and something happened to his radiator and the coolant chamber got a huge hole in it and he lost almost all of his coolant on the spot hahaha!! That's what he gets for not paying attention. I can't believe how tough rx7s are. I am still making him pay to repaint my back bumper since there is a little scratch and I just had it painted.

I have a short shifter, uhh sort of. I did what robinettte's site said to do. I took my dremel and cut down the OEM shifter rod and got a shift **** that sits lower. It feels great. I can't imagine that the $280 kits feel that much better. After all, aren't they just shifters with shorter rods above the ball-joint?

Re.: Pulleys. I read about them a lot and it sound like they are a waste of money for street. I don't know...Can anyone honestly tell me if they got a "noticeable" gain from underdrive pulleys? Besides making my engine bay look pretty

jason has some aem ecus instock right now. you should get one of them. you really need a tuneable ecu. i would say that is the best bet on your next mod. i and others would say that a tuneable ecu should be the first mod. have fun.

Cutting your stock shifter and installing a real short throw shifter is two very different things, find someone in your area with the B&M, C's, Mazdaspeed etc. and check out the difference. For $180 or whatever it is the B&M rocks, it was worth every penny to me.

I was considering buying a short shifter from pettit. When i was speaking with Jeff at Pettit he couldn't tell me if there was a significant difference between what I ended up doing and the SS that he was selling for $280.

I'll try to find someone with a SS in my area(CA, SF) to try out.

A year ago, when I first got onto the forum I was excited about getting my 3rd mod, a DP, and an AEM ECU. Well the AEM's weren't ready for shipping and I was a bit intimidated by having to "tune" my own car. So I went with the plug and play M2 ECU.

Will I really get a HUGE hp/perf. gain from a "tuneable" ECU? Can anyone give me some more insight into the world of tuneable ECU's. Don't you need a dyno to properly tune a car?

Yep
I would pick up the DIY Wideband with the Datalogint and Power FC... If you want to save some money, skip the commander... it's usefulness is limited to being a water temp / boost / knock gauge...

There is a new Map watcher feature that makes it so a monkey could tune... you just chart the wideband in the cells where you want to adjust the fuel, you go to the corresponding injector cells and change the number... You can get it done in a day or two, and then re-tune for each successive mod.

Falls under the category of "Reliability Mod", but I would recomend a "Fluidyne" radiator and a water temp gauge. I would also do the fan mod as well. Throw in an aluminum AST as well. This seems as the only logical next step to me. Then after that, by a gauge pod

Regards,
Frank

I think a good programable ecu would be the way to go. I really like what the Haltech has to offer, but that may be too much work for you.
You may also want to think about a big brake kit. Or, for safet, a rollcage, with some 4 or 5 point harnesses, and if you have the money, some racing seats. Just a thought.
Man I wish I could say "Hmmm, what should I do next." Instead of "Hmmm, how am I going to get the money to do ____ next."

Thanks for all the advice guys. Once I receive and install my Sway Bar, FP, & HKS TP. I think my modding urge will be "satisfied" for a while, a short while. Maybe I can work on paying down my credit cards...

Then I think I will dive-in and get PowerFC. After reading the Tuning 101 type posts it looks like I will be busy for a long time tweaking & tuning. I just hope that I don't **** things up and pop my motor by mis tuning the PFC...
