if you go with a midpipe i know that you will be able to smell the exhaust more easily but how bad is it? if you go for a short drive do you end up smelling like you poured gas on your clothes? does it suck for daily driver use?

I hate it, i dont roll the windows down anymore or my GF would bitch at me , i was thinking of going to a Hi flow cat with a quite Cat-back and just adding a electronic cut-out to race with. I can stand the smell but ladies dont like it at all.

I have a downpipe, midpipe, and the A'pexi GT Spec exhaust. I don't think the smell is bad at all if the car is moving. However, if the FD is just sitting for a few minutes then it smells like fuel. Also, it is extremely loud, but I still roll with my windows down every time I drive. My FD was a daily driver a few years ago and I felt very comfortable with the exhaust setup.

Also, I never had any passenger complain about the smell. The only time they would mentioned it, is when the FD was parked while the car was on.

Its not THAT bad... I do notice in stop/go traffic, and my wife notices when she's in the car, but she's ultra sensitive to fumes. People following me notice it more than I do. I had my dad follow me to drop the car off at the shop... and he said it was unbelievable.

'course it isn't any much worse than every car on the road used to be in the 60's. That's hard to believe in retrospect, but I do ntice that if you follow a vintage muscle car or something somewhere, it is pretty rude.

Thing I've yet to figure out - a TurboII with full exhaust is not that bad at all. Actually smells kind of nice, not overwhelming and stinky, even with the car running in the garage.

I have been around TurboII's that REEKED and made your clothes all nasty, but they were typically running WAY rich.

I wonder if it's a case of the car idling richer than it should, a difference in the FI systems, what? There's gotta be some reason.

My dad demands that i start my car and immediately back it out of the garage. It seems to smell up the whole house in a matter of minutes.

it IS kind of addictive.

I dont have a problem with my clothes smelling bad unless I've been in the car for a long time (say over 20 minutes). Short trips dont seem to make you smell like exhaust, just the longer ones.

Why would you not get a MP if you want to put down more power?

I never felt the smell got into the car itself during normal driving or made your clothes smell. Externally is another story. The park-it-yourself underground garage downtown where I had been a regular customer asked me to fix the exhaust, and then said I couldn't park that car there anymore. It worked out for the best because I found another place that was $.50 cheaper, LOL.

my take on it is that in the real world, it's not that bad. It depends highly on if your windows are rolled up and which direction the wind is blowing. If you're sitting at a redlight and the windows are down, and the wind is coming from teh back...then smelly. otherwise you're fine.

honestly, I liked the smell. it didn't stink... run some good smelling 2cycle oil and you'll be fine

It’s now my favorite cologne.

I have seen people behind me at stop lights wave there hand across their face and point to me as they talk to each other in the car behind me. I just then rev it a bit and smoke them out.

Another lady (very recently) passed me fairly erratically in traffic just to get in front of me and stop smelling my exhaust. I knew that was why she over took just one car. So I passed her back with a red line rev. She was not happy.

Yeah I’m an *** sometimes, but I got a kick out of her response in my mirror.

People can't seem to drive behind me at all because of the fumes. My passengers normally complain since it smells worse on their side. Forget about going through the drive thru since everyone around you might pass out from the smell. Ohh yeah if I warm the car up in the driveway the entire house smells like gas eventhough the windows are closed. I personally like the smell. I wonder if I'll die sooner because of the toxins released. BTW I have downpipe & midpipe.

I regret taking out the smog system. The smell is toxic. And you will smell like exhaust. My 7 is my daily driver and sitting in San Diego traffic is a bitch. You will be a nuisance to everyone including yourself. Not to mention the noise. It must have doubled in loudness.
So my advice to you is not to do it if you use it for daily driving.
My car will soon be a weekend car. So until then.... My wife calls it the stinky car...
But it sure is hella fun when you mash the pedal.

Damn, I never heard of that effect of a midpipe before! Good to know... I would love the power increase, but I'm in college, and therefore am even more concerned about not making women run away from the car ;-) I personally love the smell of fuel, but I'm not sure it would be an attractive cologne... What's the power difference Hi-flow cat vs. MP?
