MA Guys I need help with my heating and A/C system.

Guys im sorry if this has been covered before but ive done some searching and cant really seem to find a solid answer.
I've owned my fd for about 3 years now and i've always noticed a slight smell of oil inside the cabin ever since i bought the car. I read some posts and from what people described it seemed to be not that big of an issue but now that small problem has turned into a big problem!
It gets worse now with the cold weather coming up! I have to keep the "re-circulate" button pushed on all the time in order to reduce to smell of oil from getting inside the cabin. When im driving i either get used to the smell or it goes away for a bit in some way but the minute i stop at a red light i can smell oil again! Now the worst part is this; when I turn the heater on not only does it smell like oil but the windows fog up like craazy in a matter of 5-10 minutes or so. Then to clear the fog what ive found to work good is to drop the temp **** back to cold and turn the AC on for a bit. The fog immediately goes away and Im able to see again. But its all a cycle im gonna be doing that same thing in the next 5 or 10 min all over again.

Now ive done some searching but the closest issue ive been able to find relates to a smell of coolant when the ac is used which isnt really my case. So i was just wondering if anyone ever had the same issue and how they went about fixing it. Is it something under the hood or inside the cabin that i have to look at?

I appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks guys

No clue bout your issue but if you don't want your windows to fog up with the heater on, keep the a/c on and put your temp to heat. This is typical in any car...

You can defog the windows by running the A/C and leaving the temperature **** over in the "hot" position.

As far as the oil smell, you're probably smelling an oil leak in the engine bay.

The fresh air inlet for the HVAC system is at the base of the windshield/top of the hood...and I believe there's a rubber seal in place to seal that edge of the hood to the firewall. If that seal is missing then it wouldn't surprise me if you could smell the goodness from the engine bay in the HVAC system.

Yeah i kinda figured that would be the issue. I see a small leak in my oil filter i gotta check whats going on in there. Its already tightened as much as it goes but it'll leak sometimes. Now about that fresh air inlet; when i have the re-circulate button off i can feel air coming in from outside when i stick my hand underneath the glove box. Is that normal or am i missing something in there? Like a seal that you were talking about or something??

I appreciate the help guys,

get a new oil filter... Tightening as much as you can isn't good. Once the seal touches, a 3/4 turn more is all you need
