Guys! Do Greddy SMIC ducts work with the stock elbow and stock IC?
And if not does anybody make ducts that fit the stock IC and elbow and where can i get it? I kinda wanted to replace my intercooler hoses with something a little stiffer and reliable. I might in the future do a SMIC upgrade but i just wanted to maybe improve performance and looks while i save some dough for the new IC.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Greddy SMICs don't really come with ducting, or at least nothing that is worth putting on a car. Well to answer your question, yes, the junk might be able to be crammed on to a stock intercooler but that's like taking the crappyest intercooler and taking the crappyest ducting and thinking you are somehow doing something good for your car by adding them together.
well im sure someone has replaced the stock rubber or plastic ducting with something a little more efficient or at least better looking. I know the stock intercooler is crap but my car is bone stock with the exception of an apexi intake so it will have to make do for now. Now im getting ready to do my hose job and buying all my silicone hoses and couplers for the intake ducting and thought it would be a good idea to change the ducting for the intercooler and elbow as well. Correct me if im wrong.
That would be called "putting lipstick on a pig". You aren't going to gain anything keeping the stock SMIC but upgrading the duct. You'd be better off keeping an eye out for a used Blitz SMIC.
You can get upgraded stock IC piping - I had a set for a while on my car. They do pop up used every now and again.
I had an HKS set that replaced the soft rubber piping from the IC to the Y-pipe and the IC to the TB elbow. On the project car I did I had a set of R-Magic Japan IC hardpipes, same deal.
Performance wise you really don't see a lot from it - I didn't notice anything seat of the pants. Does dress up the engine bay, though.
If you get the Greddy 3-piece elbow kit you get the elbow, pipe from elbow to stock IC, then S-shaped pipe from IC to y-pipe. The S-pipe is the expensive one, since it's a tight bend so they made it a cast aluminum piece.

Yeah im not aiming at any performance gain. Like i said im buying all these silicone couplers and thought that maybe i could get the ones for the IC ducting as well. Just a question of dressing up the engine bay till i can save some dough for a new SMIC i guess. And who knows perhaps getting discounted shipping on those couplers and hoses and whatever.
Thanks guys
Thanks guys
Any upgrade over the stock ducting is worth doing. I eliminated the intake crossover. The shark-mouth mod is also good for this. That crappy stock IC needs all the help it can get. It's not as though youll see any cooling gains with the Blitz unit. IIRC it is simply thicker, improving flow. That being said: The Greddy "duct" is just a piece of metal that goes over-top of the intake crossover outlet and enlarges the duct to cover the taller greddy smic. It would be completely useless on a stock IC.
