Gushing sound

When I start the 7, I hear a gushing sound. It is coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. Could this be freon? Or coolant?

First, go over every hoses and connectors in the cooling system. If you find no leaks, time to start saving for a reman from Malloy.

Do you hear it from under the dash area on the passenger side? Like a water whooshing sound?

I had that happen before, ended up being air trapped in the heater core area after I had a radiator flush done...I just had to burp the system some more. Been fine ever since.

Why is this the only thing you say when people ask about engine noises? It sounds like you work at the Mazda service department. Whatever

I agree with part of what he said. Check all the hoses and connectors. If nothing is found leaking, check those of the list of possible culprits. He may wish it was as easy as saying replace the engine but it is not. There are many things it can be. It could be a exhaust leak. But you have to start somewhere. and keep track of what you check, and the results. Make a list of all the components and gaskets on that area of the engine. Then go thru said list and check all the cthings for proper operation. You will find the problem or at least have a good list to give to a Pro shop when you take it in ( If needed)

Also FWIW: I recently had a similar problem in our FC. It would rattle and gush like air bubbles in the heater core. After countless burping sessions and hose clamp checks.( all new hoses were just put on)I was ripping down the road getting ready to shift into 3rd. When i grabbed the shifter the noise went away. ( The shifter bushings were bad) I still cannot figure out how the noise transfered to the heater core area but it took a few days to pin down.

When my first motor needed replacing due to my coolant seals gone bad, my car would make that gushing sound after shutoff. Do the champagne bubble test to see if your coolant seals are gone/going.

had that sound as well, it sounds like a bubbly "whooshing" sound on start up. I know exactly what that sounds like. The motor sound made it difficult to hear when I was driving, but it was still there, as passengers could confirm it. Its was faint in my case. It was air trapped up in the heater core, which is located in the near region of the passenger footwell. Coolant seal failed eventually just from age, so I did have to get a rebuild. Good news is that I did manage to get rid of the sound by burping the system. The champagne bubble test is something along the lines of seeing tiny bubbles in your coolant system. Coolant displaces air in the combustion chambers (o-ring failure), and escapes into the coolant system released in the form of "champagne" bubbles. Before start up, making sure your car is cold, pull either the filler neck or AST cap (can't remember which one ) and look for these bubbles. Just remember to get them back on soon enough before things start to boil over.
