Guestimate my mileage left

For starters, I have No Money,
128k miles on the motor (don't know if it is original or not, owner said it was, but it pulled pretty damn good for a car with that many miles)

daily driven, I shift at 4,500-5,000 rpm, 8-9 psi boost at most in 3rd-5th gear while driving on the freeway. Oil changes regularly at 2,500 miles. Never floor it. Exhaust and bov only mods. Hit only top speed of 95. Constant 180 degree F temp.

Now i know this might be newb, but looking at how this car is driven(about 30-60miles a day), do you guys think i will have lets say 3-6 months left on the engine til i can afford a new one?

Is there anything else i can do to make sure it gets there? How much mileage do u think i got left?

Any bets? Place bets now!!! We can turn this into a game.

You should be fine for a few months I would think. But you don't really know... One minute they are fine... Next you're puking oil or losing water. None are the same... There are a few users here who have gone 120K+ miles

wow, man the power fc and the downpipe are probably the safest things you can do right now. downpipe helps engine breathe better and power fc if tuned will supply more gas so you dont lean out. If you want your motor to last for 3 to 6 months, you should have no problem if you dont boost. that should give you enough time to save for a new motor.

i dont boost much, there is no way i ever floor it up to even past 5k, thats just what i did within the first 5 days that i got the car, then i slowed down and thought of the repurcussions.

The engine can go at any moment. There really is no estimate to give you other then cross your fingers and start saving money incase it does.

Keep driving it nicely and there is no reason to think it wont last another 50k miles really. There is no magic mileage. Then again no one can predict the future and it could blow the next time you're in it.

So best guess estimate is from 0-100,000 miles, give or take a foot.

well what usually causes these engines to fail most of the time anyways?
driving too hard, running too lean, over heating? anything else?

Lack of required tuning when modding. Also lack of proper boost control.

Don't forget coolant system failure.

she's.....gonna........B_L_O_W!!!!! j/k man. I have heard babying the car (a rotary) is just as bad as racing the car. If it's stock it wouldn't hurt to "air" it out every once in a while.

If i get it to run a little bit richer then normal would that premote extended engine life? I know running lean is dangerous, and running too rich, but what if its just a little rich?

running too rich is bad as well. the fuel will wash the "chamber walls" of the oil that coats it. just keep that in mind. the stock power fc maps tend to be a bit rich. install all of the things you have and go have it tuned by a shop. most everyone else is right. there isnt really a "ticking time-bomb" situation on a rotary. . . wait, there is. . . and it starts at 0 miles. haha. your best bet is to BE READY. once you come up with enough money to have it rebuilt and ported or whatever you wanna do to it you should go ahead and beat it while youre ahead. . . wow, i need to take some sentence structure classes. just save up some money and find out how much itll cost for you to do what you want to do. i.e. engine rebuild w/porting - $3k average, removal/reinstallation - $500ish, 5th gear synchro - $150ish, tuning- $300ish. get a quote from a shop that you trust and save up that much money. when you get to that point. . . go have it done. my best proposal for your situation. there are a lot of other things you can do while the engines out. . . like vacc. hoses and such. just contact a shop and get a quote on what should be done when you go through an engine "redo".

have fun,
paul

reman engine costs around $3k + shipping I think. Malloy Mazda is a popular source. installation is usually another $2k.

From: YOU DONT HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW
Keep driving they way you are and dont turn up the boost. I think those are the only reasons you have lasted as long as you have.

But caution........ It can blow at any time with no warning. I just replaced the turbos on mine and didnt boost over 6 psi and 755 miles later oooopps there she went. I have decided to save some money up and do the V8 convertion, atleast then I can get 150k instead of 18k.
