Guage Pods / Replacing Guages

I am getting a bone stock FD and need to do some reliability upgrades. 1st I need a functional temp guage, but I don't like the add-on guage mounts. Can the stock temp guage be replaced with a good functioning one? I do know about the mod to do to the stock guage, but I want one with actual numbers. Can it be done? If so, what brand guage mounts there well?

And I will also need a boost guage, anywhere to put that in the pod? Like drill it's own hole, or is there no room for it? What other options?

It's extremely difficult to do, since the stock FD gauge cluster uses a one-piece circuit board to run all the gauges. Also, getting the gauge recessed properly will be a PITA, since there's a clear plastic cover to deal with.

Just do the snap in thingy for the center speaker. It looks teh most professional.

Unless you want the a-pillar gauges for to demonstrate your mAd qUicK y0! skills

i have seen people fit the 2 1/16" gauges in the stock cluster but i think it took a lot of work. you can just linearize and calibrate yours. it wont have actual numbers but it works a hell of a lot better.

If you get the complete instructions for linearization, you can use resistors to set the gauge needle and mark temp. lines on it. There is a chart/graph to guide you.

You can put your boost and temp gauge in one of your DIN slots. Thats what I did and it's beautiful. You dont have the ugly pod on the a-pillar or another ugly thing coming out of the center speaker spot.

Keep it stock looking. I can glance down towards the DIN slot just as fast as somebody looking to the center speaker pod.

relocate your temp and fan controls to the glove box and use the holes for the gauges. I agree a-pillars impede the vision and the center speaker thing is just ugly IMO. The din slot is a good thought!

This would be an awful idea, as it would be quite dangerous to switch on the climate controls. I've seen people relocate their climate controls to the center console, but that requires extensive fabrication. The best way would be to get something like a R1 din box that has a lid, then mount the gauges in there... that way, they would be hidden.

Thanks for all the good ideas guys. I am going to have a Double-Din stereo, so the DIN unit is out. I think the best suggestion so far was the A/C controls area, but I saw some pics of guys who did that, and it looks VERY hard. Anyone else done it?

IMHO the a pillar does not look bad or impede anything. Only 2 gauges can fit there reasonably. There are some center speaker gauge pods that look nice as well. One is sold by a forum member.

If stock is what you want, then you can't have any gagues. Other than what came with the car.

The nice thing about the above option is that they can be removed and the car returned to stock. This is also true for the din slots.

Now THAT is what I want. How hard is it? Though I will prob use a digital guage for the Water temp/Oil Pressure, that way I still have another cutout for an analog Boost guage.

I linearized the stock temp gauge and used a column mount for the boost. It looks stock.

How much are you looking to spend? It's a bit pricey, but an Apex'i Power FC and Commander will also fit the bill, with no need to mount any gauges at all.......
