They told me they couldn't insure "late model sports cars".

Guess I'll give them another call.

They will come out and VISUALLY make sure you have a garage and also check that you have another car. At least that is what they told me. So don't think just telling them you have a garage will be enough

I'm going to try. I just submitted an app and will hopefully be approved. I was waiting for my State Farm insurance to finally die out on the FD.

But I did inquire with them about a year ago, and they told me they have to do a visual on the house.

I called this morning - the answer was NO on a 93.

They don't consider it to be a collector car. I even challenged them since the web site seems to indicate that just about any vehicle could be considered.

Maybe in 10 more years...........

Grundy Insurance is the ****...but make sure you have a collector vehicle usually 75 and older anything above must be in a collection and worth their while...

Here's the lowdown on Grundy - period:

If you don't mind signing an affidavit that your car is essentially a "Sunday driver" you're OK to go with them, but if you use it for work, or even to drive down to the grocery store on a regular basis you will void your policy.
If you are driving to a rally or car show you are covered, but not if you go to the drycleaners every week or run errands with it. I guarantee you that if you get into an accident and try to bullshit them they will catch you. Accident investigators for insurance companies are very smart professionals and they will find out the truth about what was going on. No matter how damn smart you THINK you are.

The documents are VERY specific as far as what you can and cannot do with the vehicle. I have them sitting in a file folder in my office. You also need to submit detailed pictures of the condition of your car. If they have any doubt they will send someone out to check it out in person.

One of the really GOOD things about them is that you can specify the value of your vehicle up to $25K and pay a very small extra premium for it. If it is totalled that's what you get. Bah dah bing!

Like any reputable insurance company they are going to check you out completely before issuing a policy - and that includes your recent driving record and probably a credit check. If you don't come back with no accidents or tickets for the past several years and a credit score of at least high 650 or higher they'll more than likely reject you right off the bat.

Sad to say that due to the demographics of most of the members on this forum there are probably only a handfull that could qualify for their underwriting standards - and rightfully so!

I decided to keep my USAA policy even though it is more expensive. I want to be able to take my car anywhere, anytime and not have to be looking over my back wondering if I'm covered, or trying to "bend" the rules.

If you think you are going to somehow cut your policy rates by 90% it ain't going to happen unless you are willing to play by THEIR rules... and they pretty much call all the shots
