Grounding Wires

hey all, i was looking around for a grounding kit and i found some ones that were pretty expensive. however i found these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33574 however they are not made for our cars ( per the listing ). Is there any reason why these would not work? From the looks of it it would. any ideas?

check out the "circle earth" system from HKS. you can find it at www.rxecret7.com

they have a kit that fits fd's. the cables are all pre-measured and cut to fit.

they look cool if anything else.

Do you want bling or purely function?

Because my grounding wire kit was $18. I bought a bunch of amplifier wires with connectors already on one end and spare connectors for the other. IMO it's as functional and cheap as you can get.

I've always gone this route on my cars. You can get better quality cable from stereo shops along with all the connectors you need for about that price. Going this route takes a bit more time since you have to measure, cut the wire and crimp connectors to the wires.

any gauge really. there shouldnt be much current running through them but i used 10 awg just for appearances. go to the local hardware store and get 10ft of 10 or 12awg and a package of crimp on ring terminals for $8 total.

I just checked: my 8 gauge amp wires, 18" long, with one connector already attached cost $1.39 each. The other terminal was $0.50, and I also had some longer ones made for the same price.

FYI: most of the threaded screws used in grounding are 6mm, (.236"), so get star ("toothy") washers and terminals sized accordingly.

Anyone know if the exhaust temps burn my wire insulation if I ground my downpipe at the turbo end?

Dave

I have a ground cable on the UIM right above the DP area and the plastic coating started turning yellow. If your downpipe is fully wrapped, it shouldnt get too hot down there but I dont know if the wire will take that kind of heat. You can probably use some kind of heat resistant sleeve over the wire or make a heat shield of some sort.

1) my downpipe is bare.
2) actually, I was figuring the bolt would transfer the turbo manifold heat directly into the copper lug and wire and get the whole thing real hot.

Maybe I'll try running a ground to the body of the O2 sensor instead. Or not worry about it.

Actually, I had a 12" all metal grounding strap I forgot I bought. It fit just right on the top rear DP bolt and reaches the screw on the UIM with the other grounds. Should be fine.
