Greddy FMIC and Aftermarket Swaybar mounts.

Visibly speaking here is the problem: AWR Swaybar mounts, Fluidyne radiator, Greddy FMIC, radiator mounting brackets that come with the greddy kit will not work. If anyone else has solved this problem with a custom bracket, I'm curious how you did it. I'm a novice welder, but have no problem building a bracket.

Hey Mike -

I found the manual for the Greddy FMIC install:
http://www.greddy.com/upload/file/12050054,55_i.pdf

Looking at it you would normally drill 2 holes in the tab that sits in front of the hole for the radiator foot on the stock radiator mount then bolt an extension bracket to it. The way those mounts are designed it wouldn't be possible to do that.

With that kit do you still have the bar that goes across in front of the engine that the battery box/stock IC bolts to? If so you could have a bracket bolt to that, come down, then angle forward with a large hole to receive the peg on the bottom of the radiator. That wouldn't be too hard to fab up. I want to say that the Apex'i or Blitz FMIC uses a design like that for the lower radiator brackets.

Thanks Dale, I was thinking about this some more today. What I may do is cut the radiator tabs off the bent swaybar brackets, weld a metal tab onto them and bolt them into the stock radiator mount. Similar to the Greddy design, but with a single bolt and a couple of large fender washers instead of two small holes in each tab. I'll use four OEM Mazda rubber radiator isolators. It seems like the most simple approach I can think of.

Extremely crude 60 second drawing:

You want the rubber isolator to be on the aluminum leg on the bottom of the radiator, you don't want the aluminum and steel rubbing against each other.

I'd have the rubber isolator on the bottom of the rad and you could just run a strip of metal with a hole for the isolator to the new swayer mount and weld it on there. May need to make a little side brace or something if it's long to strengthen it.

Sorry about that I didn't adequately draw the isolator in there lol. I'm going to buy four so there will be an isolator in both the radiator side and the mount side. I was considering addition an additional bracket that bolts to the inside of the swaybar mount as well like you mentioned to add some strength to it.

This was the end product that I fitted up last night. It could use some additional bracing but this effectively how the greedy system works and uses an under brace to tie the mounts together which i still have and will use with the under tray. The mounts themselves are very strong. The AWR radiator tab sheet metal is a bit flimsy and could benefit from some thicker metal there. Not saying they aren't good mounts, just could be a small improvement.

Turned out great! Looks like you're getting closer to getting that engine fired up!
