Greddy E-manage + Auto questions

Hi, i own a 93 MB auto and i was looking at some ECU options. One of them is the Greddy E-manage . . . i don't want a PFC or other ECU's because i'd lose the hold button. Can i use the E-manage and keep the hold function? Any info on the Greddy E-manage would be appercated. Thanks- Clayton T.

It's just a piggback, so it shouldn't touch the HOLD function. IIRC, there is a way to install the PFC and retain the HOLD function.

However, with the E-Manage, I don't believe it removes the stock fuel cut so you would still have that problem.

Thanks mahjik, i'm not sure what fuel cut is or what problems it may cause. I'll do a search; this is a good start to my questions with this system.

Basically, when a few parameters match up (rpms, boost, etc), it cuts the fuel to prevent the car from going into a lean situation which might damage the motor.

Aftermarket ECU's either remove or raise the fuel cut limit as well as adjusting the maps. I'm running the Pettit Limited ECU which has fuel cut set to 14.7 PSI. The stock ECU has fuel cut at:

Code:
RPM ABS. CUT OFF(PSI) SEA LEVEL CUT OFF(PSI)

1000 26.5 11.8
1500 26.5 11.8
2000 26.5 11.8
2500 26.5 11.8
3000 26.9 12.2
3500 27.1 12.4
4000 27.5 12.8
4500 28.0 13.3
5000 26.9 12.2
5500 26.0 11.3
6000 25.8 11.1
6500 25.4 10.7
7000 25.4 10.7
You'll notice the PSI is higher during transition to take in account some spiking. The ECU doesn't cut fuel "immediately" when hitting these points; there is a delay so it doesn't cut just on a small spike. However, this is why large boost spikes can be dangerous.

You could also go with a chipped ECU, or figure out a way to keep the Hold button with the PowerFC.

I'm a BIG fan of the E-manage - wrote the FAQ, started the Yahoo Groups E-manage list, etc. I would not put one on an FD. It just simply doesn't work well with how the FD's ECU works. The FD is just not a good application for the E-manage.

Thanks Mahjik for breaking it down. Cool Dale, i'll look somewhere else and see what i can use. I would go with a Pettit unit but somewhere in this forum i heard it wasn't compatable with the Auto Tranny.

I think i might give RE-Amemiya a E-mail and see if they reply. It's a long shot but it's worth a try. Thanks again!!! Clayton T.
