Ya then creep and you lose your motor. The dp/mp/catback just change how fast your turbos spool with minimal effect on CFM of air going into your engine. That is controled more by your intake setup. Yes, more boost = more CFM. But its running rich at the predetermined boost level you are currently running. Upping boost may put into a map that is too lean for your intake setup.

cruiser: I thought you were already running an MP with a 2.25" restrictor?

yep....midpipe cleans up the top end...no question about it

I was amazed how hard the car pulled above 6k when I put it on, even though I lost a little punch below that....it pulls very hard past redline now

Not really. See - boost level doest not correlate with CFM (airflow).
MP provides additional airflow at same boost, thus leaning the AFRs, much needed with M2 Stage3 ECU.

I will see what happens with my boost (creep, spikes) once I install the MP.

Currently I am already running full exhaust, but the piping behind DP is only 2.25" and crush bent down to like 1.5" (ghetto job by previous owner obviously) just before the the muffler.

I did have the restrictor in place before, but I took it out as it didnt do anything anyway due to the small piping diameter.

This weekend I'm installing 3" SS catback and 3" SS midpipe. And hopefully I will not get any boost creep/spikes If I do, then I will temporarily re-install the restrictor (I think 2.5" hole is possible) and eventually port the wastegate.

New exhaust should get rid of my top end backfiring. If not... HKS TP

The only mods I've done are the following:

1) Cheap Bastard intake;
2) JDM factory downpipe;
3) Greddy/Trust Free-flow muffler;
4) N-Tech free-flow CAT
5) M2 Stage III ECU

Boost pattern is as follows:
12, 8, 12

Do I still need to install a boost controller, or is the M2 Stage II ECU fine ?

:-) neil

That boost pattern is perfect for you. You don't need a boost controller as long as it stays under 13.

So Cruiser, have you tested out your car with the restrictor in place? I'm curious about the results as I too plan to run a 2.25" restrictor with my M2:Stage3.
