Great deal on an alternator

Hey all,

Just installed my rebuilt alternator from:

http://autoexpress.safeshopper.com

It looks and works great. My voltage is back to normal, air pump cluch seems to be behaving itself again, and my radio has stopped it's whining.

The unit cost $142 and change ... that's it, shipping, tax (I'm in CA), and core deposit included. Oh, and I have $30 coming when I return the original. ... Not too bad. Locally the price ranged from $180 to 220 plus tax, with an additional $70 core charge.

I think a better, or at least cheaper, alternative is to have a local alternator shop repair your existing one. Mine went, and I priced out rebuilds at around $200. The alternator shop charged me $50 to fix mine.

That price at Gotham does not include rebuilding, and they polish them, not chrome plate them.

Rebuild prices vary depending on the condition of your alternator, so check with them to verify.

They just did mine a few weeks ago, and it looks awesome, here is a pic of it installed:

I agree with Paw140 - rebulding an alternator by a professional should cost around $80 at most.

Hey vintage red touring,

Is the color a little off on that photo? Is that really orange?
