The speed is limited by power. If you want to go faster, then start modding the car. However, I would reccomend not going that fast on the street too often, though

The car is to supposed to go close to 160mph stock but like P'cola FD said it all depends on how much power you got u can go faster or slower than this depending on how healthy your car is.

Maybe this is a really, really dumb question, but did you forget to shift into 5th? Redline in 4th gear is right about 140 MPH...could you have bumped into the rev limiter?

The only thing I can think of to cause a governor like symptom is hitting the rev limiter in a lower gear. I don't know the ratios, but extrapolating my fifth gear rpms at speed, I figure the hard redline in fifth to be about 200mph. If the gears were evenly spaced (I don't know if they are or not) would give each gear about 40mph.
If that were the case:
first = 40 (seems almost right from my experience)
second = 80
third = 120
fourth =160
That doesn't fit a 140 cut-out, but I'm just guessing here anyway.

Nope, 4th tops out at 140 mph. And since the power drops off noticeably after 7500 rpms, you probably forgot to shift into 5th! I've actually redlined the car in 4th in a highway race with a Silvia, so I know that in the heat of battle, it's possible. And yes, a stock base or touring (no wings) should pull over 160. An R model will have trouble hitting 158 due to a poorer Cd.

Probably a boost leak some where..
During the WOT.. Ypipe couppler, IC connections
likely.. Tend to sing like canaries under heavy
loads. use constant torque clamps.. and
see what happens..

Yeah, with stock gearing on a 5-speed, the max speed at redline breaks down something like this:
1st: 42
2nd: 72
3rd: 106
4th: 140
5th: 204
Those are not the exact numbers from the numerical calculation, but rather my best memory from the last time I calculated it out. The numbers are pretty close though...I can attest to having been to redline in 4 out of those 5 gears

hey, ryanberg, why do you think that r models cant do 160 with the wings, because of the higher drag coeficient? thats bullshit! my first fd was a touring with front r1 dam and a huge eurbuni four point wing on the back(resembled the vielside shogun wing) and my car just slowed its rapid acceleration @ 163, but it was still climbing, really, really slowly (i couldnt top it out cause i got pulled over) and, the car was BONE stock, two major accidents, and drivers side rear ride hieght was higher by an 1.5 inch or so. i dont think my current lighter r1 will "have trouble hitting 158", to speak with out knowing is ignorance at its best.

BTW, You could have come on here and simply posted that your car made those speeds. Why do you have to personally attack me?
mjw: thanks for getting my back. I appreciate it.

Not good to be hitting fuel cut too often, as that you run lean under these conditions. Lean A/F = detonation = 'poof'.
