I went through the same route as you. Ditched the P.S. and had my lines looped. Shortly thereafter I sent my rack to be converted and haven't looked back since. There's actually a significant difference I noticed between looping and fully converting. Steering response seemed sharper and it was just generally easier to move the steering wheel...lol.

I have the Maval rack and like it, but be warned that road feel comes at the cost of comfort and driveability. I'm 6'2" and weigh about 195 lbs and lift regularly, and have no "trouble" turning the car per se, but it does require more effort than I would want to exert on a regular basis in DC traffic.


If you need space in your engine bay or plan on tracking your car regularly or think a slight increase in feedback is worth the extra manual effort on and off the track, I guess go for it, but warned that this mod is not something necessarily suited for a DD, unless you want to be a hard-*** about it.

I have no power steering from day one of owning my car. I can honestly say that my brother's Mercedes G500 takes more effort to steer than my fd3s. I never experienced an fd with ps and I don't know what I'm missing.

i love the way my car feels without p/s
now a daily driver or anything that i dont hit high speeds in i dont mind p/s
some people complain about not having p/s i drifted my 2nd gen and first without power steering and it feels good, with the secong gen it feels better drift cause its heavier you can get a feel for it quicker, with the 1gen its so light its kinda like drifting a 86 corolla...auto x feels good also without p/s...i dnt know its just my preference

im in the same boat as a few of you..

this is my frist car w.o ps and bought it without powersteering.. honestly i love it on highway and dont mind it under 15mph etc.. its annoying but i can deal with it.. my ONLY concerns are 2.

1. since this is my dd, if for whatever reason i have to move out of the way to avoid getting hit or hitting someone i wont be able to turn it quick enough....
2. autox.. i plan to auto x A LOT next year... and im worried if running w/o ps would affect me.......

just removing power steering (no looping) vs maval converstion? is maval ANY easier to turn on lower speeds?

I love the simplicity of removing the PS but for daily driving and autox PS is absolutely worth it and all the creatine on the planet won't help my little ***.

My motor is out right now, and I've been thinking about doing this converstion. I've never driven a car without p/s, so I'm a little hesitant.

The car isn't dd'ed, but the one thing keeping me from sending my rack in is that; when I feel like crusing around town, I want to relax.

What pushed some of you guys to the other side of the fence?

My first FD had no power steering from when I bought it, I got tired of it and switched it to power. I must be one of the few that likes power steering over a manual rack.

I think everyone that actually drives there car more than a few thousand miles a year prefers PS unless your hard core monster like Goodfellas (I heard he deadlifts his car like 5 reps each time he gets out).

The maval conversion is supposedly slightly easier than with a looped line. but of course, much harder than with ps.

I will be going manual.

It leads to a much cleaner engine bay! Also, it really isn't that bad w/out PS.

I had a FC that had no power steering, to me it was a bitch to drive i didn't like it at all.

I did a motor swap on my FD and decided to leave the belt off of the PS to see what it was like. I actually liked it so then I removed the pump and looped the line.

To me it was still very easy to turn the wheel with a little more effort needed plus the road feel was a huge plus so you can help predict whats the limits of taking turns.

I am 5'7" maybe 170lb's and don't lift anything really.

damn you people,i have been thinking of doing the manual rack conversion but every thread i read about this the final conclusion is 50/50...i can`t get a damn straight answer weather i should do it or not....
