got my car tuned! yeah! now my clutch sucks! boo!

well, i finally got my PFC installed and tuned this weekend only to find out that my stock clutch must now go bye bye oh well, i guess i would have needed to replace it in the long run anyways.

it works for daily driving, but as i gassed it this morning while showing off the car to my sister, the clutch let loose a little and burned a bit. it'll do for a little bit, but now its time for an ACT.

how much does it cost to have the clutch replaced? do i HAVE to swap the flywheel also or can i use the old one for the time being?

i didn't have the opportunity to do it on a dyno. i had Demetrios do it (if you're near Md., you know who i mean). we did it a little conservatively, basically just tweaked a base map and i'm running around .83 bar of boost. i have similar setup to the 300rwhp upgrade package on rx7store.net, so i would assume somewhere in that region, but i can't vouch for anything... probably close to 280rwhp i would think. i'm thinking that i might go with the Spec Stage 2 clutch from rx7store.net and just have my stock flywheel resurfaced for now. i'll have to talk to my mechanic and see what he thinks price will be. it sucks to have SO much fun under the hood and not be able to gun it.

I have about 300 rwhp and the stock clutch works fine. Maybe yours is just worn, bad clutch slave, or improper freplay adjustment? You might be able to put your dollars elsewhere unless you really just want to upgrade.

nah, he needs a new clutch there is no way around it. its very unlikly his clutch slave is out since his clutch pedal dosent stick to the floor.

He may need a new clutch, but my car has been fine with no slip for over 117,000 miles on a stock clutch. Uprading is not a bad idea, but in my experience it is not neccasary.

I just help repair a car that had a slipping clutch caused by improper freeplay in the pedal adjustment.

the pedal has very good travel and feel to it, but Demetrios even said when he was test driving it that it felt worn. i'm going to replace the line and the clutch and keep my flywheel. it sticks just fine until i bury the gas pedal then i can here it spin off and smell the burn. i will have someone else look at it first and make sure its not just an adjustment or the slave cylinder etc. thanks for the help guys.

*edit* i'm sure that it is just worn out. no biggie, just another unexpected expense... i was hoping to be done for a while after this tune. oh well
