Got my boost gauge installed last night

Again, you guys are probably sick of hearing about my very minor modifications, but I'm happy I managed to get something else installed and working. I ordered the black/silver autometer gauge and pod from rx7.com, had no major problems other than having to goto the parts store for some vacuum fittings. I just tapped into the ashtray light for gauge light. I'll post pics tonight, as I'll be installing my front strut tower brace tonight as well.

Joe

Congrats on the install. I know people who paid to have their boost guage installed. No DIY job is too small.

damn i didn't think about the ashtray light. i took my dash apart and used one of the wires running to the stock gauges. it is better to hear about your small mods than to have someone asking about which BOV sounds best or which exhaust is the loudest.

where did you run the vac. hose through the fire wall? i got one in too but have it ghetto through the fender until i can find a spot big enough for the vac. line to fit through.

I couldn't get it through the firewall, so I routed it through the fender as well, and through the grommet into the driver side footwell.

I read about using the ashtray either on the big list or here somewhere, works like a champ.

I get tired of the BOV and exhaust questions too, as long as it works, I could care less!

You can route the vac hose through the steering column boot.

As an option, just need to punch a small hole. Check out --> http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/b...e_install.html
Hope this helps.

Thats exactly what I used actually. Just had to punch a small hole in the grommet for the vac hose.

I finally got a pic, I'm impressed with how closely the red filter matches the stock gauges

I wouldn't use a power washer anyway. Just get out there with some car wash, a hose, and some elbow grease.... (Gunk or other engine degreaser optional)

What's the best way to protect the electrical bits? Just keep the water away or cover them with something?

You don't have to protect them with anything. I hose down my engine compartment every time I wash the car. I've hosed the engine compartment down on every car I've ever owned. No problems.

Obviously if you have an open intake, you'll want to cover it with a plastic or something. If it makes you feel better, cover the alternator and disconnect the battery.

I wouldn't use a power washer. I also wouldn't be blasting water at full force under the UIM.

Ok, I'll do that then. I was just concerned with shorting something out that's all. This'll have to wait until next tuesday though, I'm leaving for the USGP tomorrow

Lucky bastard! Did you get the full 3-day pass so you can walk the pits? My wife and I are going to go next year.

Yup, we did that last year and got Alonso's autograph

Hope to get some more this year. I'll probably post a thread in the lounge with pics when I get back.
