As you will gather ime totaly lost, all my past cars have been non Turbo, ill have to try and get it onto a dyno, It is fast though, the other night i had a bit of a race with a Honda CBR 600 (One of the new ones with the silencer exiting above the rear wheel and left it for dead all the way from 30mph up to 130 mph)

That's one crazy setup .

SuperAFC - that's an *OLD* SuperAFC, like 1996-1998 era. It lets you roughly tune the fuel curve by RPM, but has no compensation for load. I'm guessing whoever set up the car used it to fine-tune the chipped ECU a bit or something. AFC's work OK with a chipped ECU, but they're much better with the newer AFC that can compensate for load.

Rebic III - That's Greddy's additional injector controller. You can control a number of extra fuel injectors, and set them up to give extra fuelling at so much RPM and boost. It's actually a pretty decent way to get extra fuel, but it doesn't compensate for temps (water or air temp) at all, so you have to tune a bit on the rich side with one.

OLD school Greddy turbo timer - that's what's above the Rebic in the glove box. The old ones have the tenths of a second as well, which is pretty much just eye candy. They're solid and work.

HKS boost controller - self explanatory. Controls boost .

This is the 1998 way of tuning a car in Japan. It does work, but it can be a mess to troubleshoot if you have a problem, and it's a pain to get set up properly. It's also hard to say how well it was tuned by the previous owner, but this is really true of any setup.

The 2005 way to run that setup is a PowerFC and larger injectors. Of course, it would need to be tuned in properly.

I would recommend finding a shop that can run the car on a dyno with a wideband A/F meter. That would let you know what kind of power you're making and how safe that setup is.

Dale (who's owned nearly every bit of 3-letter Japanese electronics )

So the HKS boost controller is best left well alone? along with everything else? until its been on a dyno, it certainly makes my TR7 V8 4,6 which is pushing 350 ish bhp feel well slow.

Back in the 90s I had that stuff. It works OK but it a total PITA to tune and or trouble shoot. I would sell it on eBAY and get a power FC. You will be MUCH happier with it and you can use your glove box again. I would also ditch the supplimental injector setup and go for a 550/1600cc injector setup. I used to run additional injectors on my intake in my old car and it is a biatch to tune, somewhat unreliable, and isnt any where as nice as a 550/1600 setup (which is enough fuel for your turbo).

Anyway. With that setup properly and tuned it will be awesome. The T04S is a very nice turbo.

A bit off topic, Smoke on start-up

A bit off topic, and ime sure its been asked before? (Ive put it on here if it relates to the set-up at all?) on start-up the RX will smoke(Blue) for around a couple of mins, then thats it no more smoke, Is this norm? just somthing that worries me a bit? the importer reckons its normal with the set-up on the RX

Thinking of going for a Power FC? What will the benifits be V Cost?

Can anyone on here tell me what benefits/gains i would have going for a Power FC/ My present set-up is using: HKS Boost controller, Greddy Rubic 111 controller,Apexi AFR, I have the fD booked in soon with a FD specialist for setting up with what’s on now, but ime toying with the idea of going over to the Power FC, What would the benefits be? Another thought is saying stick with what you have and spend the savings on some other goodies?
The FD is running a HKS TO4S, Front mount intercooler ect
Any Advice.
Thanks

It's amazing how technology's changed...now one little commander can control pretty much everything in that glove box, and better too!

Like the others said, the 1001 controllers in your glove box were specific computers for specific tasks, controlling various functions of the car. The reason for this was, stand alone fully programmable in real time ECUs weren't available back in '98. The introduction of the Apexi PFC and other similar ECUs changed all that, and simplified things GREATLY. No more piggy backs that had to be reflashed or chipped. No more 50 gizmos to control diff components of the car, and no troubleshooting nightmare when something's not right, and you're trying to figure out which electronic device isn't working, or which is interfering w/ the other etc.

In short, the Power FC is an amazing ECU. It can control virtually every function your ECU can monitor. You can change settings, control larger injectors, change boost, fuel maps, ignition timing, fans turn-on temps, the works. It can even perform the functions of many monitoring gauges, w/ peak hold functions etc, as well as monitor sensors for function, and various electronic devices' voltages etc. Plus, it's very user-friendly, so most likely the tuner you're going to use is going to be familiar w/ the Power FC. The better the ECU, the more he can do w/ it.

For the most part, that's "normal." You can get some condensation in the exhaust, plus as the car ages, oil collects on the turbo oil seals, and when you go to start the car, it gets burned off. As long as it clears after a few seconds, you have nothing to worry about.
