Red face Going with LS1, Stock Rx7 Eng etc Value??

93 Rx7 engine
10,000 on the street port engine, (documented)
10,000 on rebuilt turbos " "
Stock 5 speed (notchy 1st to 2nd up shift)

Engine has never seen over 6K rpm or 7lbs of boost, coolant temp over 200 (except shut down heat soak) Oil never over 205 degrees I have a oil Temp sensor for entering the cooler and exiting the cooler.
Compression, 100 plus or minus a tickle.

What is the value?
How would you guys sell this to best maximize its value??

Yeah I wouldn't even mention this stuff in detail when you sell it. Just say it was babied or something. Making these comments is just going to get everyone asking similar questions. While you may be telling the truth, its just gonna be really hard for the vast majority of us to believe it...

Yup - why would you even port an engine if you were not going to take it past 6k rpm? Porting has limited (no?) benefit under 6k rpm. I could believe this in the break in period, but after 10k miles...

yes I would only want to buy an engine that has seen 10K rpm, that way I know it won't break J/k.

I see your points, and don't expect anyone to believe this on blind Faith. I am just real careful with the car. I do have cooling fans set up to keep the engine temp down but really the driver has more to do with it. I don't push the RPM range and am fine with the lower boost. That being said I am planing on a LS1 so you know I like power. You guys with the FD's know how it feels to pop an engine. I read where a guy popped his doing a "U" turn and then put an LS1 and a T56 in the car. You can't even lug the engine as he likely did and boom. The cars have a special engine and they kick *** but not for us (ME) old guys. I likely could sell my FD for 13K and build a 240Z/LS1 because I have a lot of the parts now. No smog on a 240Z but I know its NOT near the car an FD is so I keep thinking about what I should do. Here is a picture below..

You know.. It's sad;

We're afraid to trust someone's claims of not beating on an engine for sale (understood).. but you know what?

You can't even trust engine builders to give you quality anymore.. How many people have received crap rebuilds? Paid for porting that wasn't done? got USED internals or housings? Yeah... It's out there..

There are good builders/sellers out there. Just have to be careful..

That being said (not to sound like a lowballer but...) I wouldn't pay more than 700-1000 bucks for a used motor. Regardless of what level of use/abuse quoted is.. Worst case scenerio it can be used as a core exchange..

That was a little harsh.
I agree with some of these posts because there is no reason to have a ported motor if your not going to use it.
But then again, this guy is almost 50 years old, how fast do you really think he drives?

Cool

I'm sorry if I offended anyone here, it was not my intention.
I just wanted to use those lines after watching Pulp Fiction last night.

The facts remain the same:
1- RX7 3rd. gen, are fast cars and anyone who buys one, is not going to drive it slow and not have fun with it.
2-The twin turbo set up makes for alot of heat
3-The cooling system is very poor and/or marginal in efficiency, to say the least
4-You port and engine for a reason, going slow is not one of them
5-If you drive this car in California, you are surely going to get caught in a traffic jam sometime and the Oil temps and Coolant temps will be higher than 200 F.
6-10K on an engine like ours, is not any guarantee it will last long
7-Never heard of 1st and 2nd gear being notchy, maybe signs of abuse??

I have a single turbo R1(sees 2-3 Auto-X's a year) and I drive it like a BITCH on the street and I don't have a tranny problem...yet.
So what gives here JSJ???
You say you drive it like a soccer mom.
The claims are just hard to believe, so go with the 240Z/LS1 and drive it under 2K.
Enjoy the "SCARAB"(you are old enough like me to remember)

Parting it out will net you the greatest amount of money. Sell the rotors, housings, E-shaft, Turbos, ECU/Wiring harness all seperately, and youll get quite a bit more than you would if you just sold it as a single unit, but it will most likely take you more time and effort.

One guy posted what he got for all his parted out equipment, and it came to a little over 3.4k, not saying its true or not, but thats what I read.

Go here and check out their forums, very good info.

Edit-- A 240Z with an LS1 is a sick car, and Id bet easier to do than the FD/LS1, but the FD is IMO a better chassis.
