In my quest to upgrade stock parts to be more reliable during my LS build, I found the '95 Taurus fan. Seems that it is the the prefered choice amongst the small block boys because it flows 3800cfm w/ the Ford shroud. And, it is two speed so there is no need to replicate the 3 speeds Mazda wired in.
So, with out the shroud, it is still unconfirmed which motor spins faster and would be able to pull more air. But, I bought one and mated the driver's side (4 blade?) fan to the massive Ford fan motor. Literally twice as thick and it spins noticeably quicker than the Mazda motor.
The Ford motor drops nicely into the FD shroud. After I put some miles on the engine (and regain any motivation to rip my car apart again :-) I will also replace the pass. side.
