Okay, I am wondering what the final verdict is on this stuff with FD's... I did a search and was unable to come up with much.. I found a couple 2nd gen posts but none had a definate answer.

Can we use GM Synchr0mesh in our trannies or is it too thin and will end up overheating and decimating the internals?

I origanally purchased it as many and I mean MANY other people I knew raved about it and how smooth it was... mostly Honda and Mustang owners. After purchasing it I learned that it may not be good for trannies not built by Tremec or BorgWarner.

I was hoping to get an answer as I'm almost done with my tranny swap and didnt want to be stuck at the end of it all just because of lube.

From what I've read, it's listed as a 80W gear oil. I would use something that has at least 90W on the high end (75-90W). I'm a big fan of the Royal Purple products so that's what I have in my tranny and diff.

 

Okay,I guess I will just peddle this Synchromesh off on some Mustang owners over at Corral.net then.

Mahjik, do you use any LSD additives in your rear diff or does the Royal Purple 75w90 have it already added?

Royal Purple has their own additives but for the stock Torsen diff, an additive really isn't required.

 

My fd had 107k when I got it, and I used redline mt-90 in it as soon as I started driving it. 2nd gear was actually pretty decent except when shifting very hard...5th had a light grind regardless of driving style and it proceeded to get worse over the last year, up until 113k it has now. IT started getting pretty bad so I switched to GM synchromesh. I can say it helped it some...perhaps about half of the severity is gone, but it didnt totally smooth it out, so I've elected to go with a different trans.

I can't definitively say anything, except that I did note an improvement over redline.

 

RotaryResurrection, how long did you use the Synchromesh? I'm just curious if it will be detramental to use it in OUR cars considering how many people have told me its great stuff.

Just a few weeks before the stock twins started smoking badly enough that I wanted to park the car until I got time for the new engine and single turbo install.

 

Tremec and BorgWarner are owned by GM to my knowledge.

 

I used the stuff in my car, except it was Pennzoil Syncromesh. I bought it from autozone. The stuff worked good, noticed smoother shifiting and no problems in the cold. My oil seal blew a few weeks ago so i havent been driving it lately, havent had any problems when it was working
