I have never been on a track and would love to get my RX7 on one, but I would like an instructor. How would I go about getting an in-car instructor? I have a 93 that I consider moderately modded. It was dyno tuned at 300 RWHP.
TIA

I just realized this event is the same weekend as the Spring South Lemons race at CMP

You would just need to sign up for the green group (price and details below). That will put you in the beginners group which on track day they'll assign you an instructor to ride and teach you all weekend. Looks like they'll have a classroom session each day too which are usually pretty helpful and informative. Looks like there will be plenty of guys from here that are gonna be there that will be more than happy to help you out.

Student or Solo Driver Registration (2 days) - $275

This is the only option for Green/Blue group drivers and the 2 day option for solo drivers that can’t make it on Fri: Includes ~90 minutes per day of track time (instructed for Green and Blue groups, along with one AM classroom session per day).

I'm there quite a bit. If you ever want to come down, let me know and Ill get you some dates. Maybe after VIR we can organize something at Road Atlanta in the fall.

Sounds like it will be a blast, but I don't think my little 89 S10 could take it (see sig). Doesn't VIR have somewhere I could stand and watch you guys? If I can't race, I can at least "lend a hand" to someone and watch from the sidelines. Would be pretty awesome to participate, but just being there to witness it would be nice as well.

There are some good vantage points to watch the action at VIR. I don't know this club's particular rules, but at most events like this you would also be able to get ride-alongs with anyone in the advanced/instructor groups. Bring a helmet

Most track days won't let you out without an instructor until you've shown plenty of experience.

At least that's the case for any well-run, safe track day. If I was at a track day where they let beginners out running solo I think I'd leave.

Yep, the PCA has a really good program in place for in car instructors. They have in-car instructors for the green and blue groups. If this is your first time running with them and want to sign up for a solo group, be prepared to provide references.

my birthday is the 24th and there's no way I could make it out for this. Damn... this would be one hell of a present to myself.

Silent Ninja thanks for the information. I registered up for the green group today. My only other experience on a track was 16 or so years ago on motorcycle. That experience taught me a lot and hope this is equally as educational.

I'm sure you are able to come out and spectate and like Matt said, you can go all over the place and watch from different places. As far as ride alongs, I'm not sure.

Dan- It does look like alot of ppl are signing up. I'm not sure what number they will cap the event at though.

Are the V8 guys invited?!

I had planned on doing the NASA event this month, but some things came up and I had to cancel, so I may be signing up for this event.

I agree Memphis, it is nice to see Fritz out there tearing it up. I hitched a ride with him back in October, phenomenal car and driver. I was amazed.

Hey, is this Robin? I'm guessing it is. Missed you at the Feb. event. This is Brent with the silver FD that was paddocked with Fritz in October. As for the "are V8's welcome?", I hope so because I'll be in one

Ha, yeah, it is Robin. Didn't realize you were Memphis! Yeah, I thought about the February event, but then I thought about waking up to 17 degrees in my tent last February...that changed my mind!

I am pretty sure I will be at this event, although with a wedding in the works, nothing is a definite right now.

How have you been? Made any changes to the car lately?

Heard that man! The weather turned out to be really really nice, but I'm sure it got cold at night. I actually blew the engine in my silver car at VIR at the NASA event last month, but my other V8 FD is almost finished(See sig for build thread) so it will take over primary track duty this year. Hope you can make it out!

BTW, you getting married? If so, congrats!

Bump this up... The event is filling up fairly quick it looks like. It looks like there are several instructors that know the FD inside and out at this event like ptrhahn and Fritz Flynn to name a couple that can definitely help you learn the ropes

I so want to go, but it's a 14+ hours drive from Jacksonville, FL, and I hate travelling solo.

Also, I've got to get either a new tranny, or put in a new front bearing in the tranny!

Brent- I'm interested in Road Atlanta . . .

:-) neil

Just to entice some of you guys that are on the fence, here are a couple of videos from last October when Fritz and I were at VIR:

Fritz smoking fast lap to win the TTS class in Time Trials(did I mention that is with an engine with low compression?... wait until next year... he's only going to be faster):
