General Info about RX 7's

Hi,
right now I currently own a S model 95' Honda Prelude. Which aren't bad cars but I am looking at getting a 3rd generation RX 7. I am starting to pick up little things I guess, but I just need to know generalities of the RX-7's. Like common knowledge about the different packages or touring, r1, & r2 (like what options are only available with certain packages that distinguish them, like maybe the Bose system in the touring and crap. so that I know which package the car is that is advertised if the person doesn't say.) Maybe engine codes and anything else, that may deem useful so I'm not like I was when I got my prelude and bought a base model crap and had no idea really what I was getting. Luckily the 3rd gen rx-7 doesn't have a base model engine =). But if anyone can help me out it'd be really great.

Also...don't sell the Prelude for an RX-7. Keep it for a daily driver.

hehe,
yeh at first i planned on selling the lude, till i just read one of those newbie sites, saying how the rx 7 isn't always a reliable daily driver, so i guess i'd try & keep both to ease some tension on the rx 7. Also though, that site, gave slight info on the touring & r1/r2 packs. I know the r1/2 is just the sport suspension & crap for the diff years. the touring has like sunroof, leather & bose system. But does that mean the R1 & R2's dont come with either a sunroof or leather. Because most RX7's I've seen for sell advertise leather interior & crap.

Correct. R1/2's come with suede-like seats and no sunroof. If you want those, you get a Touring. There really isn't any reason to hunt down an R model anymore, being that the suspension will be worn out if it still has the originally components, and if you plan on modding, most of the other differences will be replaced. Be more concerned with it being in good condition, rather than the model name.

Ok, cool, also I was just thinking. I'm used to most cars, and RX-7 is anything but like most cars. Normally I would try to find a car that wasn't modded at all. But now I'm reading most of the time, you want someone who knew what was going on, you dont want to get from a dealership and if it is bone stock, then the person probably used as a daily driver and didn't know much about it. Or if you realize what I'm saying. But should I still try to find the bone stock or at least one with few mods. And since you say the R models aren't worth the hassle, then I'd probably rather have touring. I like leather seats, and sunroof, & cruise control. But thanks for your help also.

yeah i was thinking more mods is bad. Because that means the guy was most likely like somewhat young and has a heavy foot (i know i do alot of times) and if he has like body kits and engine mods then he was probably racing it, which means it was probably dogged hard. I also have a thing about buying a pre pimped out car and just driving it around. I wouldn't be able to just drive someone elses work. I would have to at least strip down any cosmetic looks they did to it and put on my own.
But would yall say that for probably the most reliable used one for a rule of thumb look for closest to stock?

Also I'm in lakeland. It is halfway between tampa & orlando.
