General info about rx-7

Hi.

This is my first post here, and I have some questions for you that I hope you can help me with.
First im really sorry for the bad english, I am from Sweden, so the english could be better..
Now to the questions.

I am now a owner of a corvette 1991. Im am about to sell this car this spring, and get a "new" turbo car. What i dont like about the "vette" is the poor quality on parts, and the fact that these cars are expensive when you whant to make more HP, and the auto x.
I have looked at alot of cars, including the supra, nsx, 300zx, and the rx-7.
I found the rx-7 to be my choise First its not so usal, and i think its a beutiful car

I dont know annything about wankel cars, but I am very intressed in cars and I know how to read, so i think i will learn with time

So what can I expect from a the rx-7, when it comes to reability, handeling etc?

Is there many problemes with the wankel engine, I have heard about apex seals go north, are that expensive to fix?

How much power can a stock rx-7 take? How about BPU?

How is it with spare parts to the rx-7, are they hard to get?

How is the rx-7 in auto cross? And is it expenisve to uppgrade brakes, shocks, etc?

What years should I look for? And is there anny diffrence between years?

I have a own garage with all the tools I need, and I have fixed all the problemes on my vette. Can I fix MOST of the troubles on the RX-7 my self?

And what can I get with stock turbos and BPU? What kind of turbos is there in the RX-7 stock? And do they last long?

Best Reagrds

Well, let me be the first to say welcome to the forum.

A common responce to those questions is generally in the form of "use the search button". It's in the top right hand corner of your screen. It can be very useful.

Here is a link to a very nice 3rd Gen. site. It has a lot of good info

http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobinette/

It will answer most of your questions.

Once again, Welcome to the forum.

There's so many great things about the Rx7. Reliablility isn't always on the top of that list. Depends how you drive. It's so easy to get carried away in an Rx7. Many guys have had great luck with there 7's, but many of us haven't been so lucky. Going through engines isn't unheard of. Personally, I just had to rebuild my motor @80k. A lot of guys have had this done with 40k. Just depends on how the car was maintained. A car with 30k on it that's just been sitting is a great find, but if its been sitting a lot and the oil and or coolant hasn't been changed you could run into problems. The water seals tend to fail if you don't change the coolant regulary, plus these motors run hot. Rob robinette has a great site on the rx7 and a buyers guide on what to look for. Good luck, everyones pretty helpful on this forum.
