Gearbox
Hello all hope you had a great Christmas.
need some advice please, I have just rebuilt the engine on my 92 touring. All went well I had the garage remove the engine for me and left the gearbox (transmission) in situ. I then had the garage put the engine back in for me. Only for ease and they have proper ramps ect.
now my question is if the power plant frame is not lined up properly or the gearbox is not lined up properly. Would that cause slow cranking!! Because the engine fired up straight away ran for 30 seconds and won’t start again but the gearbox was making an awful noise, and when I tried to tow start it the back end locked up.
please help thanks

PPF alignment is not your problem.
You may have a serious issue with your trans builder ....assuming clutch was installed correctly.
Did you re-install the drivetrain?

I’m not seeing the PPF keeping the rear wheels from turning...unless maybe it simply wasn’t bolted up completely and the drive-shaft is binding on it. It’s hard to imagine a shop missing that.
I see you have 2 threads going on this.
First thing is to determine if you have a mechanical problem or an electrical problem. If the engine is hard to turn over it sounds like a mechanical problem.
With the clutch pedal down the engine and trans should not be connected at all. If the engine is still hard to turn, you may be in for bad news. Where did this engine come from?
Also I have NEVER had to tow start a new engine. If that's the only way to start something is wrong.
